CHURCHES.
Reverend Edgar Quarterman, the new pastor of Second
Baptist church, mentioned belore his first sermon on Sunday
that he was the first son of the church to be called to serve
the congregation during the 147 years of its existence- He
asked for me prayers and pat.enc? of all concerned. If this
is assured he said "I believe a job can^be done. God will be
the only boss w.th the Bible as a guide.” Rev. Quarterman
preached a very inspiring sermon, taking as his text, ‘ The Ul¬
timate'Truth, the Supreme and the Everlasting Promise.” He
regretted the fact that Rev. Eddie Davis was not present so
that ne could be thanked in person for serving so fa thfully
during h:s absence. He also thanked all who gave him so
many words of encouragement, including Rev. Martin, also a
son of th; church, and Deacon Cooper.
Butler Presbyterian church is making elaborate prepara¬
tions for the Synod to be held there on October 26-27. All
