MR. JOHNSON HONORED
Congratulations are in order for the Mutual Benevolent
Society who celebrated its 75th Anniversary this month. At
the Annual Banquet preceding the Anniversary Bail, the
highly esteemed iMr. Sol c. Johnson, well known Editor and
Puolisher of The Savannah Tribune was honored as the oldest
living member. A song was dedicated to him r'Auld Faithful.”!
A very impressive tribute was paid to him.
The banquet which was-held at Lincoln Inn began at 8.30
P. M. The program included invocation by Dea. Allen; Dedica¬
tory song, “Hold The Fort,” to the organization; Presentation
of Mr. Johnson and song didicated to him; Dedicatory song,
"More Than a Friend.” to the wives of the members; Address,
by Mr. John Wesley Dobbs, of Atlanta; Eulogy for deceased
members; Remarks by the president, Mr. Benjamin Goins.
Mr. Walter Bogan served as Master of Ceremonies. Guests
were Mr. and Mr. J. W. Dobbs of Atlanta, Mr. Wesley Doobs,
(nephew of Mr. J. W. Dobbsi of Cleveland and Mr. Edgar
Blackshear. „ i
The Ball was held immediately afterwards. The decora-,
tions were attractive, and included a mammoth banner bear¬
ing the name and dates of the organization. Mrs. James
Sampson designed and made the banner. The chairman of
the dance, Mr. Harold Brown appreciates the wonnderful co¬
operation of the committee in making the affair one long to
be remembered.
DEDICATION OF CHIMES
Tne impressive services dedicating the chimes at the
First Congregational Church last Sunaay will linger long in
the memories of all who attended. The chimes were dedicat¬
ed to the late Mi-. Martin G. Haynes, who was a member of
the deacons’ board at the time of his death. The chimes
were purchased with funds raised by the deacons’ board since.
Mr. Haynes’ death. The program consisted of the following:
Organ prelude, rendered by Mrs. Lester Johnson, ' f aith of
Our Fathers,” In the Hour of Trial” and "O Love That Will
Not Let Me Go," sung by the choir; scripture by the Rev. A.
C. Curtright; spiritual, "Talk About A child That Do Know
Jesus,” by Miss Eudora Moore, "Homing” by the octette of
Cuyler under the direction of Miss Jane Parker; Solo, "My Soul
Is Anchored in Tire Lord,” by Miss Evelyn Bolden, and an
octette by Alfred E. Beach High School under direction of
Mr. Peter Smalls; Address by Principal Otha Douglas of Alfred
E. Beach; Presentation of Chimes for Dedication by Mr. R.
W. Gadsden who is chairman of the Deacon Board; Mr. R. H.
Hatchett was at the console of the organ as members of Al¬
pha Phi Alpha Fraternity stook in tribute for their honored
and deceased comrade, Mr. Haynes; unveiling of the plaque;
dedicatory response by minister and audience; Mr. L. D. Per-:
ry, who is basileus of the Alphas made impressive remancs.
Mr. Haynes was nominated by the Alphas as their most out¬
standing member. The program concluded with “O Master
Let Me Walk With Thee.” Parting words and benediction.
Representatives from the Future Teachers of America,
Shriners and other organizations were present.

Beach who resides in Kingston, N. C. Mrs. Collins is now the

Floyd is the former Miss Angeline Brown. Both she and ba-

The regular monthly meeting
of the Beach PTA was held
Wednesday night of last week
in the s-hool auditorium with
Principal O. L. Douglas making
the main talk in the absence of
the previously announced
speaker. The main speaker
warned the group that any
people in order to succeed must
rely almost wholly on economic saving
security and advised
something out of each paycheck
regardless of the amount of
money earned. The speaker was
presented by Mrs. Sarah Bran-
nen PTA president.
