A program preceded the
tea of tho Weselyan Service
Guild of Asbury Methodist
church. The affair took place
at 6 p. m„ Sunday in the ladies’
lounge of the church. Miss
Ruby King, lav leader of the
church and a Guild member,
gave the address. Musical num¬
bers were rendered by the .Tr.
choir and members and indi¬
vidual musical selections were
given bv the Misses T.,ois Ben¬
nett, and Carolyn Scott, and
William Butler. Mrs. Bennett
served as mistress of ceremon¬
ies.
Miss Laura King served as
general chairman for the anni¬
versary veelebration and Mrs.
Sadie Stringer served as ac¬
companist, Rev. J. H. Taggart
is pastor of Asbury and Mrs.
Emma Bennett, gulid president.

The services at Independent
Methodist, church were well at,

preaehed an excellent sermon
at the morning worshin hour.
A Youth Night nrogram was
rendered on Sundav night. A
contest held with the young
children of the church and
Sunday school. Thev raised
*20.10. The total amount raised
for the day was S52.23.

St. Philip Monumental
The month of April has been
momentous one at St. Phillip
Mounmental AME church. It
has seen our magnanimous pas-
tor take members into the
church each Sunday and we
saw the end of the first, half
of our rallv come to a close,
although it fell somewhat hort
of expectations. The second
half of our rally is scheduled
to terminate on Mothers’ Dav

Tns fund is to be set aside
until sufficient money has been
raised to start work on renovat¬
ing the church. There was a
one act playlet enacted at the
church on Monday evening
sponsored by Mrs. Albertha
Harmon, to raise money for
the mother she is sponsoring
in the mothers contest. The
Sunday services were further
enhanced by the melodious
voices of the Gospel choir
which sang regularly during
the past month. Rev. W. W.

Services were carried on in a

local minister of Bethel,
nreached both morning arid
evening, speaking in the will mim¬
ing on the subject “I be
‘■atisfied.” and at evening on
the subject “To whom shall we
go.” In the afternoon Pastor
A. D. Powell delivered a power-
ful sermon at Bethel AME
church. Sylvania. subject “The
Ideal Church.” These services
marked the closing of a rally
to bulid a new church since
their church burned down last
winter. The amount of monev
'•aised was $214.00. The St. Paul
Baptist church of Svlvania do¬
nated $56.50 to help in this
effort. Rev. H. E. Scott is pastor
of Bethel, Sylvania. C’n Monday
night th p Gosnel chorus of
Bethel will celebrate its anni¬
versary at the church. Mrs.
Lois Harrell is the president of
the chorus. On May 14 the Mel¬
rose Singers will be presented
bv Group No. 5. Lawrence Hut¬
chins. Sr., captain. The raffle
sponsored by the usher board
was quite successful. Mr. Hut¬
chins turned in the highest
amount of monev and Mrs. G.
Mack was second. Henrv Fuller
of Pritchardville. S'. C., held the
lucky number, 61, to win the
waterless cooker. The amount
raised was $22.00. Herbert Gor¬
don is president.
