CAVALCADE OF MUSIC
The pupils of FLORANCE STREET SCHOOL gave an ex¬
cellent performance on Friday night at the Alfred E. Beach
High School Auditorium. The dance groups displayed unusu¬
al grace and rhythm against a scenic background of beauty
and charm.
The program concluded with the awarding of certificates
to the Boys who served as Safetv Fatrols during the year and
to 150 boys and girls who have been outstanding in conduct.
The principal, Mrs. Willie G. Edwaids and teachers are grate¬
ful to the parents who helped to make the program a success.
SHRINER’S CONTEST
The oratorical contest sponsored by Omar Temple, No. 21,
cf the Shriners at St. Philip AME Church on last Sunday
was a very enjoyable and interesting one. Pupils from Paul¬
sen school, while second prize was claimed by Renxy Han-
hoped that more schools will participate in the future for it
is a project that is really worthwhile. . . and the pupils en-
joy it.
First prize for elementary went to Antionette Cox of Paul¬
sen school, while second prize was claimed byRcnxy Han-
shaw of Haven Home. Alice Bivens of Haven Home won
first prize for Junior High. Second went to Lillian Jones of
Woodville. Cash prizes were given the winners and the tro¬
phy awards were presented the schools. Any school winning 1
the trophy three times will be eligible to keep it. Prizes were
presented by Mrs. Rosemary C. Jackson.
This year’s contest was for tha benefit of the Disabled Vet¬
erans’ Club. Sponsors were Mesdames Mattie Branch, De-
lorah Ford and Miss Euris Smitn. Mr. Leroy R. Bolden serv¬
ed as master of ceremonies. George L. Smith is 111. Poten¬
tate.
DELTA MAY WEEK CELEBRATION
The May Week program presented by the members of Beta
Delta Sigma chapter of Delta Sigma 1’neta Sorority was im¬
mensely enjoyed by a most appreciative audience. Due to the
illness of Soror Willn Mae Ayeis, the organ prelude and Del¬
ia prayer were payed by her cousin, Soror Jaunita Sellers,

was beautifully done. at his rendition of

■•On the Road to Mandaday” and “Through the Years” with
Mrs. Fannie P. Jenkins as his accompanist. . “The Prayer” and
"Praise Be The Father” by Hiiiiary R. Hatchett were excel¬
lent, as well as the solos, "O Divine Redeemer” and a “City
Called Heaven” by Soror Berniu. Darby. bound
Mrs. Fannie Pray Jenkins held the audience spell
with her masterful rendition of “Rhapsody in Blue” on the
organ. She received great applause as well as Robert Long
who sang "Nocturne” accompanied by Mrs. Long and “Vestic
La Giubba (From Pagliacci) accompanied by Mrs. Long ate
the piano and Mr. Hatchett at the organ. Too much cannot
be said ol Mr. Long’s stage decorum and the very artistic,
way he interpreted the latter selection. It was indeed com¬

Mesdames Mozelle Clemmons and Mamie Haynes and Misses
Donella Graham and Jaunita Sellers as members of the com¬
mittee. The beautiful standards of spring flowers used ai
decorations were presented to Pres, and Mrs. Payne and to
the children’s ward of the Charity Hospital.

FROGS ENTERTAIN WIVES
The wives of the Frogs were their very speecial guests oh
last Thursday night, the beautiful affair taking place at
Cafe Lincoln Inn. The wives were all looking very, very al¬
luring and charming for their gallant knights. Knighthood
was most certainly in bloom Oh, well you know the Frogs
can certainly put over an affair.
The background of trees, flowers on the tables, the Frogs
insignia added to the beauty of the occasion. Dr. J. W. Wil¬
son served as Master of Ceremonies. Devotion was led by
Wilson P. Hubert who also entertained the guests of honor
with a st.xaphone solo with Josephine Hubert, (Mrs. Wilson
as his accompanist). Edward Law sang a solo accompanied
by Ella Law (Mrs. Edward). Sollie Harden had Esther Har¬
den (Mrs. Solleei as his accompanist when he sang. C. Ver¬
non Clay welcomed the wives with Mary McDew (Mrs. S. M.)
responding The Huberts (“Pat” and Giles i were special guests
After the banquet dinner all enjoyed a “Floor Show” featur¬
ing Phil Harris. Dancing occupied the remainder of the
evening.
HERE AND THERE
Rosemary Tyson was quite thriled having the honor of at¬
tending the Medical-Dental Students dance held recently ate
Howard. (It is a rare privilege for a freshman to attend).
At the freshman dance held on May 18th she was one of the
20 girls selected for the Queen’s Court. Each girl represent¬
ed a flower Rosemary representd a black orchid. She wore
a silver dress that featured a black orchid in applique. She

Congratulations to Robert Gary and William Brown

ly initiated into the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. Both were
former basketball players at Beach High School.
M’s Iris Wright will leave on Sunday for St. Augustine,
Florida in order to attend the commencement exercises at
Florida Normal where her daughter, Miss Frankie Golden is
head of the Department of Education. She will be accom¬
panied by her grandson, Benjamin “Bumpy” Mathis.
This column extends sincere sympathy to Mrs. M. B. Goins
and family because of the death of the sister of Mrs. Goins.
She left on Saturday to attend the funeral.
Little Joan Huff is quite sick because of her having con¬
tracted pneumonia. She is the daughter of Mrs. Gladys Bry¬
ant Huff Here's hoping that her condition will rapidly im¬
prove Little Joan is quite active in the church and mem¬
bers poured in to see her and showered her with kind remem¬
