Thornton Guest Soloist The public is invited to attend a musical and pew rally given by the Gospel chorus of St. James AME church at the church, Sunday afternoon. 4 p m. The program will consist of gospel songs, spirituals and an¬ thems. Allen L. Sampson will be the main speaker and Rev. S. C. Thornton will be the guest soloist. Mrs. Julia S. Hall will serve as narrator and Miss Marguerite Willis and Mrs. Al¬ ma Porter Bryant will be the organists. Jerusalem Bapt. Church Jerusalem Baptist church, 45 St., W., Rev. E. B. Boyd, oastor. Home coming day and Father’s day were observed jointly Sun¬ day. The morning service was conducted by the women with an inspiring program arranged bv Mrs. L. G. Cox. A lovely tribute was paid “Fathers of Today" by Deacon Carey Schell and Mrs. M. S. Willis and Dea. Jack O'Hair and Mrs. Georgia Jones spoke on "The Progress made in the New Church.” The pastor made interesting closing remarks. The evening' service was in charge of the men with Prof. Norman Elmore making the principal .address, theme, "A i Helpful Father." Deacons Mar¬ j vin Cobb, Boss Wilson and Mrs. ' M. B. Mungin made timely re¬ | marks after which the pastor closed out with words befitting the occasion. I The bride contest sponsored by the senior usher board May 21 was largely attended. A Capers as its pastor June 25-29 at the church. • An excellent program has been arranged for the occasion and every auxiliary of the i church will be represented each night. The welcome address will be delivered by one of the youngest members of the church, little Janet Norris. Metropolitan Baptist, Wil¬ mington Baptist, Litwav Bap¬ tist and Bethel AME. Sermons will be delivered by the Rev. J. M. Benton, Rev. J. M. Brown, Rev. A. D. Powell, Rev. L. G. Gibbs and Rev. A. M. Gilbert. Musical selections will come from the Brown’s chorus, the Sunbeam chorus, and the junior choir of First Evergreen BaD- tist. The members are asking their friends to come and make this anniversary a big one. Jereusabm Kindergarten Closing Exercises Jerusalem BaDtl*t church kindergarten held its com¬ mencement exercises Friday evening at the church with a large attendance. The church was beautifully decorated with •dr.diolis and ferns bv Ninon’s Florist and members of the Mothers’ club. There were eighteen gradu¬ ates , the girls in evening dress¬ es of white organdy and the ! boys in long pants white suits. Members of the class taking part on the program were: rec¬ itations, Barbara Jean Davis, Gloria Williams and Joe Willis; exercise, LeNell Culver, Robert Baber, Irene Smith; solo, Caro¬ lyn Rhodes; recitations, Diane Smith, Eugene Snell, and Ear- nestine Robinson; quartet, Gary Rhodes, Charles Elmore, Calvin Hampleton, Henry Mack; ora¬ tion. Joseph Lee Young. The selections by the school band and school were especially good. Mrs. L. G. Cox. the teacher, pr 'sented the diplomas with words befitting the little tots and inspiring to the older folks.
