Of course their officials have attoned for the rash actions of a crowd that nearly became a I Sugar Ray has had a “de¬ feat taken off his rocerd, and the referee, Otto Nispel, has been duly suspended for three! months. As an American veteran, how¬ ever, I am wondering whether occupation job forces have done any kind of in democrati¬ zing the Germans. Think of the people kicking a woman and attacking innocent soldiers in the crowd because a man¬ ager and a defeated boxer scream “foul” from the ring. This means that the Germans still can be aroused to do al¬ most anything when they are rallied bv hvsterical shouts or ravings. They are still national¬ istic Jo a suDer degree despite the fact that thev lost World War II. It is too bad that Joe Louis cut off negotiations for a bout Hein Tea Hoff in Berlin. After all, Joe Walcott Ten Negro Physicians Now Hold Cancer NEW YORK—There are eight Negro physicians holding clin¬ ical fellowships of the American Cancer Rocietv in addition to *wo others who are resear®h fallows, if was reported bv Dr Charles S’. Cameron, medical and scientific director of the American Cancer .Society, in a communication to the Ancient, F"”ntia®i Arabic Ordar Nobles of the Mvslic Shrine (Rhrfners). Mungin. fought in Germany with no percussions. Maybe the Louis could instill some meas¬ ure of sportsmanship into the Germans, although one incident probably could not do the job alone. Possibly. Robinson’s foe, Ger¬ hard Hecht, remembers that another German fighter, nearly two decades, won himself a world’s championship while lying flat on hie back. This boxer was Max Schmeling, the man who later was to halt Jne Louis when he was rising the top. Max was screaming foul when Iving on the canvas from a ounch delivered bv Jack Shark¬ ey. In a rematch Sharkev won the crown from the German. Anywav, mavbe we Americans had better think twice before we act when we go across the seas. It would he a shame to he merely preachers and fight¬ ers in theory for democracy, but be practicers of something other than the real American spirit. Otherwise we mav see other demonstrations against us in other parts -of the world. Poss¬ ibly some of the German action can be blamed on Communists, but it would seem that if we were emphazing democracy and sportsmanship in regard to others, most Germans would Although the Shriners’ mft had no strings attached. Dr. Cameron pointed out. he thought, the order would be interested in information con¬ cerning fellowship grants to Negro physicians and plans t,o incre®®° their participation in the fight against the disease. Ezzard Will Whip Walcott Again The big fight of the month of July will be a third rematch between Ezzard Charles and Jersey Joe Walcott for Ihe heavyweight championship of the world. Charles has whipped Jersey Joe twice, and there is no reason why he should not do it aeain. Walcott has what it takes to put up a good fight against any mart- in the ring, but he lacks the edge that makes him a champion. He has put on two good shows with Joe Louis for the heavyweight championship, and two others with Charles. Pretty soon they .will be re¬ ferring to him often as a bridesmand, but never the bride as far as the heavyweight championship is concerned. And he is getting no closer to the crown either. Age and stamina have taken their toll on Jersey Joe. He can not fight a full 15 rounds at full speed. He j.® forced to battle in flurries during the last min¬ ute of each round. Charles who is still at his peak can keep going fast for the limit, fighting a full three min¬ utes each stanza. Mavbe Joe’s cleverness will keen him from being knocked out but this ringsider would not be surprised if the champion won by a TKO or a kayo. at the University of Pennsyl¬ vania hospital, two at Colum¬ bia university, and one at the University of Virginia hospital in Richmond.
