PAN HELLENIC COUNCIL PRESENTS PLAYS
Theatre-goers were given a double treat last Friday night,
when the Pan-Hellenic Council presented two one-act comedies
at the Alfred E. Beach High School Auditorium.
•‘The Rising Flood,” a drama depicting the inexplicably
tides that surge in man’s soul in times ■ of natural disaster,
was directed by Mrs. Ella P. Law. High school students in
the cast were Willow D. Scurdy, Ernestine Moon, George John¬
son, Maybeil James, Earl Palmer, James Hall and George Mor¬
rison. The production staff consisted of Rosemary Johnson,
Florance Bryant. Carolyn Scott, and Henrietta Boles.
“Murder in the Family,” a hilarious comedy portraying the 1
consequences of suspicion and greed, was directed by John B.
Clemmons, actiqg chairman of the department of mathematics
and director of the Players Guild at Savannah State College.
The cast included Miss Christine Coleman, instructor at SSC.;
Miss Althea Williams, assistant librarian, SSC; Miss Juanita
Sellers, instructor in English, SSC.; Nelson R. Freeman, veter¬
an’s secretary at SSC.; John Camper, professor of education, 1
£§ct; Miss Luetta B. Colvin, instructor in English, SSC.; and
M'ward Law, manager of the local office of the Atlanta Life
msurance Co. The production staff consisted of Mrs. Sylvia I
r. Bowens, of SSC.’s mathematics faculty, who gave a delight¬ !
ful introduction, and Mrs. Mamie Haynes, teacher at West !
Broad school. I
Prspicacious slction of casts, warm and human portrayals, |
inspired direction made this presentation one long to be remem¬ |
bered by lovers of thespiam arts.
WEST INDIES AIR CRUISE 1
Word comes that the group of prominent Negro physi-.
dans who plan to take an air cruise through the West Indies
the first week in May, are taking along their wives and friends
and all the ladies who wish to go. Dentists, lawyers, profes¬
sionals and laymen are invited to join them. The doctors
will do a series of clinics in Haiti.

JAMES WILEY RETURNS
James Wiley, popular local pianist and dance instructor
has returned to the city after completing the required houri
necessary for his eligibility as a dance instructor. The class
of which Wiley was a member numbered fifty-six. Of this
number , only four were Negroes. The class received four
weeks of instruction in Nautilus Cuba and the remaining six
weeks in Key West and Miami, Fla.
The advance class of the school gave a dinner dance at!
Dinner Key Auditorium for the finishing class and their guests.
Mr. Wiley’s guests at his table included Mr. and Mrs. Herman
Coles of West Palm Beach; Mr. John Nedd Harvey of Coconut
Grove; Miss Marva Lenox of Miami and Mrs. Claudetta How¬
ell. (Mrs. Howell is the wife of Avon Howell of Savannah.) A
grand time was enjoyed by all.
Gn Monday night of last week, the members of the class
were the honored guests at Cafe Society and witnessed a won¬
derful show. Many other parties and other social gatherings
were also on their agenda.
Mr. Wiley returned to the city primarily to puj the final
torches on the Delta’s Jabberwock to be presented April 18th
at the City Auditorium. So folks, don’t miss it for we are
sure that he will bring something sensational. He has serv¬
ed as Em Cee for the Jabberwock for several years. Remem-'
ber that tickets are limited and going like hot cakes. So get
yours early. Contestants and members will have to make
their report soon. Kindly see any of them as soon as possible.
HETTY STOKES JOINS HOWARD UNIVERSITY DRAMATIC I
PLAYERS 1
Miss Betty Kathryn Stokes, attractive and vivacious 16
year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Stokes (Jesse and Ge¬
neva) has returned to Howard University after spending her
spring holidays in New York City. She was the guest of
relatives (Mr. and Mrs. William Simmonsi and friends. Bet¬
tye has joined the Howard University Dramatic Players. She
says that it is the one and only internationally known How¬
ard Players. Professor Wilkerson, voice coach discovered
Betty’s capability when she was asked to read the part of
feme one who was not present at the time of a rehearsal. Hi:!
comment was favorable. Bettye was among others who have
been given try outs for Phillip Morris Play House.

Mrs. Anne Givens was the very charming hostess for her
Pinochle club on last Friday night. Club prize went to Mrs.

National and Regional Officers, delegates and visiting so-
rors met at Benedict College, Columbia, S. C. for the South¬
eastern Regional Conference, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority,
March 28-30. Beta Espilon, Beta Iota and Beta Epsilon Sig¬
ma were hostess chapters. Jeanette Hayes, Basileus and
Eunice Clay, Epistoleus of Alpha Iota Sigma chapter; Carets
Rose Lotson. Basileus of Alpha Iota chapter; were delegates.
Fannie P. Jenkins, Southeastern Syntatkes, presided.
Social courtesies began Friday night with Delta Sigma
Theta’s cocktail party. The hostess chapters honored con¬
ference guests and their friends with a formal dance. The
A. K. A’s invited the conference group to breakfast on, Satur¬
day morning. Flowers were sent with best wishes for a suc¬
cessful conference by Zeta Phi Beta.
After breakfast the conference group assembled in Antis-
dal Chapel for the morning w-orship service. Guests for the
service were President J. A. Bacots, Benedict College; Presi¬
dent S. R. Higgins, Alien University and Dr. Horace Mann
Bond.
The Alphas and the Omegas served cokes during the af¬
ternoon session. The formal banquet was held in Allen Univer¬
sity’s Cafeteria.
The conference group attended the First Calvary Baptist
Church on Sunday morning. A tour of Columbia and din¬
ner in Starks Heights ended the activities.
Jeanette Hayes was appointed acting Regional Secretary.
Eunice Clay was a member of the nominating committee. Co-
