been endorsed as candidate for
the bishopric. Here is a sketch |
about how he climbed to this
high and holy pitch. Dr. Bryan
first came to Savannah as a
boy to enter Georgia State col¬
lege (now Savannah State
college). To secure funds to
pay his way through high
school and college, he worked
at the college dairy. Savannah
Morning News and other places.
In 1927 he graduated with an
A R. degree He then set out to
further his education in Gam¬
mon and Turner theological
seminariea where he later re¬
ceived the degree of bachelor
of divinity. He received the de¬
gree of doctor of divinity at
Morris Brown college, Atlanta,
Dr. Bryan has been endorsed
for th* office of bishop by the
Connectional Council and other
conferences and organizations.
He will leave Monday morning
for Chicago where the General
Conference will be in session
May 7-M.

On Wednesday night, April
23, the Matrons of St. John
Baptist church met at the home
of Mrs. Sarah Brannen, 1202
East Gwinnett St., with the
president, Mrs. Mary Jackson,
in charge. The regular routine
business was transacted.- Mrs.
M B. Smith became a member
of the Matrons. Mrs. Brannen
served a delicious repast. Those
present were Mesdames Por¬
ter, Miller, Stevens, Smalls,
Rivers, Daniels, Taylor, Hail,
Hudson, Younge, Simmons,
Jackson, Coxon, Smith, Butler
and Brannen. The next
meeting will be at 735 East
Waldburg St. President. Mrs. M
O. Jackson; Director, Mrs. A
Simmons, and reporter, Mrs. P.
Coxon.
Revival At St. Paul
The Rev. E. L. Green of
Macon is in Savannah to con¬
duct a revival meeting at St.
Paul CME church, West Broad
and Maple streets, the Rev. J
L. Key, pastor. Rev. Green is an
excellent speaker and one of
the outstanding evangelist* and
revivalists in his church. The
meetings will continue through
May 10th.

Rev. F. D. Jaudon, teacher. At
11:30 the presiding elder deliv¬
ered a soul stirring message,
and one was added to the
church. At 4:30 p. m. the Gos¬
pel chorus gave a silver tea at
the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Hunter, amount raised,
$1785. At the evening service
Rev. Norweli brought a pow¬
erful message. Rev. Butler vis¬
ited with us.

Rev. C E. Young. Sixty-one
members were present as were
also many visitors from other
churches.
