Hamilton, manager of the avannah Social Security office, jald today. This is shown, he said, ontacts being made by the Social Security office field per- onnel and by Inquiries eceived by that office. Some people, he said, have the npression that payment of ocial Security tax by the self- 'inployed and the resulting old- ge and survivors insurance coverage is a matter of choice, "This is not so. It is as com- pulsory as making an income tax return if your net employment income is as much as $4C0 and is not from one of the professions excluded from Savannah, executive secretary. Defending boys champion is Morris college of Sumter, S. C., and defending their honors as 1953 girls champion of the hard¬ wood will be the Savannah State Tigerctts. He pointed out that self- employed people who have net earnings of at least $400 during their tax year must file the Social Security section of the income tax return even though they aren’t required to make a federal income tax return. Personal exemptions permitted for income tax purposes are not permitted in determining self-employment net earnings for Social Security purposes, Therefore, quite a few self- employed who do not ordinarily file iueme tax returns must make Social Security returns, Mr. Hamilton urged persons who had self-employment in- j t rome to contact the local Se- curity office.
