Many parents, friends and others interested in the edu¬
cation of our youth have been streaming in great numbers
to various schools throughout the city to ooserve some of the
many interesting activities carried out by the children. Chil¬
dren’s academic art and constructive work are on display in
tiie classrooms, hallways, auditoriums and in windows.

began its observance of National Achievement Week with a
program at St. Matthew’s Church on last Sunday, fhe theme
lor the observance is “Americas Challenge To Implement
School Integration By Understanding and Treating Prejudice. ’
The speaker was the Grand Basileus, John W. Potts who .'s
president of Voorhees in Denmark, S. C. He was introduced
by Bro. J. Q. Jefferson.
Others appearing on the very interesting and challeng¬
ing pregram, included Bro. P. A. Patterson who gave the invo¬
cation and benediction; Miss Ruby Ridley who rendered i,w->
musical selections accompanied by Mrs. Fannie P. Jenkins and
Bro. J. W. Jamerson who gave a retrospect of Achievement
Week.

(Maryt while they were m attendance at the University of
Michigan After the Omega’s aftair on Sunday the rotts
spent a few pleasant hours with the McDews. They also paid
a visit next door to the William Flemings. They were es¬
pecially anxious to meet the Flemings because it was then-
daughter, Mable, (a student at Voorhees; wno greeted them
so warmly when they came to the campus. Before coming m
Voorhees, Mr. Potts was a principal of Avery in Charleston.
Mrs Patsy R. Johnson and son will leave on Novembei 19
for New York There she will join her husband, S-Sgt. Lloyd
Johnson who served overseas for 19 months. They will remain
there with his parents and other relatives.
Dr. Marion Capps ol South Carolina State College was
the week end guest of the Walter Leftwiclies. pr. Capps
who is an instructor at South Carolina State, and a member
of the Moles, hopes to affiliate with the chapter here. The
Moles met on Saturday at the home of Mrs. Nona Hopkins with
Mrs. Janet Hayes serving as co-hostess.
!3o happy to know that little lone Trice is doing nicely fol¬
lowing hor accident. Although there is still a scar on her face,
she hopes to return to school this week. lone received so
many toys, cards, and even money during her illness that
she almost needed another room to hold them.
The Omega Dance that was held at the newly renovated
Coconut Grove on last Friday was a lovely affair. The decora¬
tion of palms and two insignias made a beautiful setting for
the charming ladies e.nd gentlemen who enjoyed the occa¬
sion. The music was great and the atmosphere most pleasant.
Mr. and Mlrs. Herman Prescott of Newport News, Va., ac¬
companied by their three children, Herman “Terry” Prescott,
III, age 5; Patricia Norvelle, age 3 and John McIntosh Prescott,
(2 months i ari/ived in the city last Thursday for a visit with
their jiarents and grand parents. Making the trip with them
was their friend, Burl Bowen, who returned the next day
along with Mr. Prescott to Virginia. Patricia and the children
will remain here through the holidays.

WORKSHOP
The Georgia Colored Division of the American Cancer So¬
ciety will hold a Workshop on November 12 at the Y.V.^A. pi-
rector will be Mr. John W. Emanuel. Mrs. Ethel Luten who
is very active in all civic affairs of our city wf.ll serve as regis!-,
trar Dr. S. M. M ;Dew will address the Workshop that is de¬
signed to give more information about the disease of Cancer,
and the program of the American Cancer Society for use on a
lay basis.

Mrs Dorothy Taylor is confined to the hospital

\Carl Oliver had to undergo another operation last week.
