church, Alpha Phi Alpha tra¬
ternity, Board of Trustees of
the Callen Boys Club and is a
Mason.

Mrs. Upshur is a native of
Savannah, attended the Flor-
ance street and Beach high
schools, received her A B. de¬
gree from the Fort Valley
State college and her A. M.
degree from Atlanta university.
She has done advanced work
at Middlebury college and has
had poetry published in Nation¬
al Poetry Anthology and Phy-
lon. Mrs. Upshur is a member
of the Butler Presbyterian
church and at present is an
assistant professor of language
and literature at Savannah
Rate college.
At the day’s closing program,
5 pm. Miss Bernita W. Darby,
daughter of Mrs. fdonia Darby
and the late William Darby,
will be the principal speaker.
Miss Darby is a graduate of
Palmer Memorial Institute,
