under terms of his will which set
up a trust fund “to perpetuate
the lifelong interest of my broth¬

wife, Amy E. Spingarn, and of
myself in the achievements of the
American Negro.” Arthur B.
Springarn has been president of
the Association since 1939.

to a section of the bus reserved
for Negroes touched off the
movement to end bus segrega¬
tion.
This action started a rumor
that a boycott would be started
against the Miami Transit Co.
but this was quickly denied by j
the NAACP.
Attorney E. J. Davis, one of
the leading Negro lawyers in ;
Florida, who was one of the
principal speakers at Sunday
night’s mass meeting, said:
"Our fight i's not with the bus
company. It is with the people
who pass and refuse to revoke
segregation laws.
“We intend to fight the laws
and the best approach is
through federal court.”
NAACP leaders pointed out,
however, it is still possible for
some other Negro group to at¬
tempt a boycott. In Tallahassee,
Negroes have been effectively
boycotting buses since May 28,
and in Montomery, Ala., a Ne¬
gro bus boycott is over six
months old.
The Negroes, in addition to
seeking an end erf s&gregastoew
the buses, are requesting the
company to have Negroes
the buses serving predom¬
Negro sections.
