S\TTRRaT TAXTaRY !fc IMT HOBBIES YOHHS AN!) MINE Hy Sadie Davis Steele I If you’ll tell me of your hobbies, I will tell you about mine, And together we’ll share j ideas About use of leisure time. And so it goes, my readers— ! considered the most interesting people in a group, because al¬ most, always, they are those who have the most interesting experiences to share, This is indeed significant for it indi¬ cates that hobbies are things In which one can invest little, comparatively little, and reap bountifully in return, for a hobby can be instrumental in bringing about growth and de¬ velopment as related to the hobbyists along mental, emo¬ tional, spiritual and social lines. The hobbyist is never bored. lor there is always something satisfying that he can do. He is not merely a keen observer, but one who actually turns ideas into finished products And since no one compels him to work at the chosen hobby 4 [Verything he does is fun. The hobbyist even experien- es pleasure in discussing What Hobby Really Is. He likes to define it in his own vernacu¬ lar, however, no matter what words are used the general concept is one and the same and that is: a hobby is» an ac¬ tivity in which one engages, usually during his leisure hours, mainly because of the fun and fascination, as well as pleasure and enjoyment that the experi¬ ence it offers and pnovides.” Hobbies are not usually chos- j en because of the possibility of it becoming one’s major voca¬ tion in life, but often they do lead to just that. They have frequently been stepping stones to careers in professions, the arts and crafts, and. in busi¬ ness. Most stamp dealers began as hobbyists. History supports this fact. And so my readers, if you do not have a hobby get one, for hobbies are good for you, and no matter what your interests may be there is sure to be a hobby that will appeal to you. Ne ‘ l w ' t ' 1 ' 1 l.eU you more about hobbies—there’s r. long list of suggestions from which you may choose. Incidentally, many of the hobbies which we shall men- tion, will be on display at the West Broad Street ”Y” on Jan¬ uary 31st, through Feb. 2nd. - — *• «“>*.«" To Operate ’l® w Mation Thomas Beaton, well-known local businessman, is launching out into a wider endeavor as the new Phillips 66 Service Sta¬ tion at 39th and West Broad Streets goes into operation this week with Mr. Beaton as own¬ er and manager.
