Night For More Voters The Chatham County Group of the Statewide Registration Committee will sponsor a gi¬ gantic rally Thursday night, May 1G, at 8 00 p. m. at St. Paul C.M.E. church, Maple and West Broad streets. This is the com¬ mittee’s initial attempt to launch a drive to register 25,- 903 Negro voters by mid 1958, There will be several speakers on the program to make the night ail impressive event. The principal speaker will be Horace P. White, Southeastern Representative of International Union of Mine, Mill and Smel¬ ter Workers. Mr. White is a very forceful speaker, and civic work is one of his pet projects. He is a member of the iocal Ardsley Park Baptist church and attended Baker School of Business Administration at Harvard University. When a section of the roof 97 feet long and 19 feet thick fell in a coal mine 550 feet below the sur¬ face, Hooper was buried in a .stooped position between a load- ing machine and a coal pillar. They are (Continued on Page Sixi Mrs. Price Dies At A<je of 100 Years Mrs. Julia Price, age 109 years, died at her residence, 503 North Street, Tatcinville, Friday, May 3, after a two weeks' Illness, In spite of her age .she was active until her fatal illness. She was of Indian ancestry. Funeral services were well at¬ tended Monday at Die St. Peter's A. M. E. church with the Rev. J. L. Sibert officiating. Num¬ erous floral offerings bespoke the esteem in which she was field In the community. Inter¬ ment was in Laurel Grove ccm- etery with the Monroe Funeral Directors in charge of arrange- ments.
