Minister Who Aids

HOLLYWOOD < ANP) — The

educational advancement of his
people.

ti°n, pointing up the achieve- '
irtDntd ments nf of t.hp the PP Rev. B. W W. WorTo Wade, 1
pastor, Pilgrim Baptist church.
Businessman Henri O’Briant,
in telling of Rev. Wade’s aid
to business:
“Rev. Wade had used his per-
sona ] j as we l] as church funds,
to keep several Negro business
establishments on their feet
during the recent business re¬
O’Bryant cited examples
Rev. Wade join asked other theirI j
ministers to him with
congregations in making
buying trips to busi-
inesses owned and operated
Negroes during the past 4
years. Grocery stored/ meat
furniture stores and
shoe stores were Included in
Wade’s “aid to business.”
In one instance, the minister
heard that a Negro owned gro¬
cery store was about to col¬
lapse because of lack of patron¬
age. He gathered, up 100 mem¬
bers of his congregation, and
instructed each of them to
bring a Shopping grocery list
of $50. Many of the members
could not get to the store on
Je appointed m0ne y day, a " d sent p ‘ c * ed along up
their groceries , the followin , 8
week.
Another time, following his
service, he took the en-
tire congregation to a gas sta-
tlon to have their cars servic¬
ed. The first car moved up
to the gas pumps at 1:45 p.
and the line stopped at 6:30 p.
m.
In an interview with the
world-traveled prelate, O’Bryant
told reporters, “Business men
and women who make up the
community where they live
should be supported. This is
the only way we can bulld a
strong economy and provide for
the business education of the
youth of our community.”

memory of our dear father
MR. DAVE THOMAS
who passed away
thirteen years ago
July 3, 1946
The month of July brings sad
memories
Of a loved one gone to rest;
Those who think cf him today
Are the ones who loved him
-best.
Only a few saw you suffer,
Only a few saw you die,
But you left some aching hearts
Without saying goodbye.
Those whom we love go out of
sight,
But never out of mind;
They are cherished in the minds
Of those they left behind.
We who loved you, sadly miss
you,
As it dawns another 13 years;
In our lonely hours of thinking,
Thoughts of you are ever near.
1 Some times we often wonder
Of the times so long ago,
[ That all we at used to spend had together to
