Mrs. Bates Gets Bomb
Scare on Plane
FORT SMITH, Ark.—(ANP)
—Mrs. Daisy Bates and a plane
load of passengers bound for
Tulsa, Okla., last week v/ere
forced to land here when word
was relayed to the pilot that a ;
bomb had been placed aboard |
the aircraft.
FBI agents and police search¬
ed the Braniff Airways plane
and the passengers’ luggage,
but no bomb was found and
after a 30 minute delay, the
key figure in the Little Rock
school integration controversy
was able to continue her flight.
The airline company re¬
ceived an anonymous telephone
call shortly after Mrs. Bates,
the wife of newspaper publish¬
er L. C. Bates, left the termi¬
