gret Jenkins, they are sadly mis-
taken.
Surveying the damage done
to the house Mrs. Jenkins de¬
“I’m not moving. I’m
to build that house. The
old one’s falling down. That’s
why I need a new one.”
Mrs. Jenkins told reporter!
that after she started to build
her house, a white man ap¬
proached and offered to buy
the land. She quoted $50,000
to him; there was no response.
Ten days later the fire broke
out, leaving the tell-tale evi¬
dence of gasoline in a nearby
pile of lumber.
Some of Mrs. Jenkins’ white
neighbors made a point of vis¬
iting her and offering their
sympathy.
