Savannah Electric and Power Co, New Traffic At Bay and Lathrope Monday, March 28, was the first day of operation of some Special illuminated traffic signs at Bay Street and East Latnrp Avenue. The signs are called “black-out" signs and they are suspended from rabies, over the lanes. When there is only one lane on the Viaduct for eastbound traffic these sign* will direct traffic in the right lane of Bay Street to turn onto East Lathrup Avenue, fie-in the easthourid iane the centerline will then be go freely into the right hand tana lo cross the Viaduct. When there are two lanes on the Viaduct for eastbound the special signs will be turned off. Then both lanes of traffic can cross the intersection and the Viaduct, The signs were furnished by the State Highway Department and in- tailed by City Electrician. The plan which calls for the use of these special “black-out" signs were devised by the City cident problem. In 1058 there IS reported accidents at this In¬ tersection. in 1959 "the - number rose to 05. It is believed that about one-third, of the accidents will be prevented by these new ages. For this to happen it wUf be necessary for the public to obey these signs strictly. When signs arc illuminated drivers should get in the proper lane well ahead of the intersection. The sign* will be cleaejy seen as far as two blocks away. 5 Bethlehem Center Jegins Hay School Program A play-school .program for chil¬ dren ages 3-5 yr*. v^as started last week at Bethlehem Community Center. The purpose of the play¬ school is to provide educational and social training for pre-school chil¬ dren. Parents may bring their children on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. The children have games, story hours, house¬ keeping playtime, and other ex¬ periences of value to the pre¬ school child. The hours are ,10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. The activities have connection with the day-care Center and are held in the .Gwin¬ nett St. building.
