The National conference oi
Artists held its second annual
conferenc at Atlanta Univer¬
sity, April 29 May 1.
There were adult and youth
delegates from a number of
states. Among the youth del¬
egates were twenty from Sa¬
vannah Youth chapter includ¬
ing Cynthia Wiliams, Gloria
Jacobs, Yvonne Young, Cath¬
erine Johnson, Charlsetta Burns,
Julia Huff, Julia Walker, Clara
Fhaney, Carletta Heyward,
Jacqueline Benson, Elizabeth
Evans, Catherine Smith, Jessie
Jackson, Sammie Wynn, Albert
George, Arthur Smalls, John
Spaulding. Willie Sapp and Lar¬
ry Stell.
Mrs. Virginia J. Kiah, Nation¬
al Youth Consultant, went with
the Savannah group. The
stayed at Spelman College in
Chadwick Hall. The boys were
housed at the Butler Y. M. C. A.
Guest speakers included
James Porter, famous histori¬
an and Instructor, at Howard
University, Others on the pro¬
gram were Mrs. Genivieve Ross,
painter; Jimmie Mosley, art in¬
structor 1 at Maryland State Col¬
lege; James Parks, chairman of
Art department, Lincoln Uni¬
versity, Mo.; and Mrs. Virginia
J Kiah, Savannah.' The sub¬
ject discussed was “Arts In A
Changing World.*
The youth panel coordina¬
tor was Catherine Smvth. Beach
Sr. High school .student. These
serving on the panel were Ste¬
phen Cortor, Parker High school,
Chicago: Malachi Stokes, Claf-
lin College, Orangeburg, South
Carolinh; and Cynthia Williams
of Beach Jr. Hieh school. Sa¬
vannah. The subject was .“Art
As An Avocation or Vocation.’
Awards for outstanding
achievement were presented
to Sammie Wynn, president
of the Savannah Youth chap¬
ter, his work president
and Mrs. Kiah for the tremen¬
dous work aeromnllshcd in
America and Afr’ca in a year’s
time f<%r youth in art.
Advisers from the Savannah
Chapter were also present in¬
cluding Mrs. Ernestine Bertrand
and Phillip Hampton.

The Jonquil Garden Club met
recently at the home of Mrs. Eve¬
lyn Scarborough, 813 West 47th
Street, with Mrs, E. Terrell pre¬
siding. Mrs. M. Preister gave a
progress report on plans for the
