In the dry goods trade the downward move ment in domestic cotton fabrics has been ar rested tor tho time being, nud the turn is now in lavor nf tho seller, btandard meetings have advanced to .The. a rise of 5c per yard from the lowest point, lileuchcd goods und prints are also up, but not so much; so is brown goods. More business is doing nt the improvement, but the demand is far from very active or general. Tho trado is now going through tho usual lull which invariably occurs between tho early and late demand, and a large business is confident ly anticipated in October. Tho South has tiikeu an enormous amount ol goods and tho demand from that quarter hat been beyond the expectations of the most san guine. Mauutacturors nre engagod on orders and are largely sold ahead nl their productions. In foreign fabrics less is doiug, and prices are not fully up to the highest point, but there is no pressure to sell. Stooks nre light, any marked improvement in the demand would probably cause a rixo in prices, especially on seasonable and desirable st.v les of dress goods.
