COL. BEVERLY A. THORNTON,
FOR SENATOR.
Editor Enquirer: As it is now evident tha,
tho Convention will not chango tho prosent
Senatorial District, and ns tho action of tho
next Legislature will bo very important and
need our best men in that body, I would re
spectfully suggest Col. B. A. Thornton for our
next Senator. I know Col. Thornton woll, and
consider him ono of tho most intellectual men
of his ago in tho State. Whon in tho Legisla
ture from Muscogee county, eight or ton years
ago, although then young he took a very prom
inent stand, and it was then thought that no
young member could compete with him. By
ordinary rule, Chattahoochee county is now
eutitlcd to tho Senator, and as Mr. Thornton is
living in Chattahoochoo county, I trust that
there will bo no opposition to him.

For Congress,--2d District.
Lumpkin, Ga., Oct. 28, 1865.
To the Voters of the 2d Congressional District:
In view of the prosent condition of our ot
try, the result of the lato revolution rondoring
our prominent frionds ineligible to a seat in
Congress for tho present, I have been induced
by frionds from different parts of the District to
become a candidate.
If I am your choice I will support tho resto
ration policy of President Johnson, looking to
a complete return of the Southern States to
their former status in the Union. Tho only
hopo for peace, happiness and prosperity is in a
free and cheerful support of tho union of tho
States upon constitutional limitations.
There is sorrow at tho grave of a first born,
anguish in tho houso that weeps a parent dead*
I remember the touching lamentation of that
ardent and impassioned naturo, Edmund Burke,
when ho mourned an only son, tho heir of his
houso and his namo. You have all hoard tho
wail of tho King of Israel at tho death of a
rebel son, but no suoh sorrow is ovor tolt for the
soldier slain in battle or for kindred gone down
to tho grave, us tho exile feels looking for tho
time upon his native homo, or the patriot when
he secs tho soil of his country crimsoued with
fraternal blood. May our eyes nevor woop
thoso tears again. Your country hangs woop-
ing on your nook and beseeches you by the
memories of tho past and tho hopes of tho fu
ture. to stay reproach and crimination and
scud healing waters along all the channels of
social andlpolitical lifo.
