J., Nov. 8.—Official: Wood’s majority in tho Stato will not vary much from 2,000 to 2,500. The next Legislature stands as follows : Union ma jority in the senate 1. assembly 10. Newark, N. J., Nov. 8.—Wood has from 2,000 to 2,500 majority, again of nearly 10,000, over lattyoar. The repub licans have 10 majority in tho assembly, and 1 in the senate. Flections of Ward secures tho appointment of republicans as clerks in chrncery and supremo courts, nil a host of other positions, Tho Slate ringing with rejoicing. Milwaukik, VVis., Nov. 8—Returns! from 57 precincts, including the cities of I Milwaukie, Racine, Kenosha, Fon du j Lac, and Watertown, give Fairchild i (Union) for governor, 1,087 majority.; The voto for the extension of sulTrage in 17 jrccincts runs 413 behind the ticket. There s but little doubt that Fail child is elected by from 5,000 to 10,000 majority. The ne gro sullrago vote is doubttul. The whole vote is light, compared with that of last ear. New York, Nov. 8.—At half-past 12 look, to-night, the Tribune’s estimates show the Union ticket elected in this Slate by about 20,00;) majority, with a demo cratic majority in this city of 23,000. Ward (Union) is probably elected gov ernor of New Jersey, and the assembly of that State will bo Union. This insures the passage of the constitutional amend ment. The Times’ estimates show tho election of tho Union ticket in this Stato by 30,000 majority. Washington, Nov. 8—Louis Sehodo, counsel for Wirz, had an interview with the President to-day, in accordance with a previous arrangement, lor tho purpose of asking a commutation of the sentence, lie mentioned as one of t> o h ading rea sons for his request that tho prisoner was very feeble, and his appearance indicated that lie would not live six months longer. Tho President being survounded by u largo number of visitors, Sehodo did not consider it proper to ask for a direct an swer, thinking it possible that somo addi tional facts might come to tho knowledge of tho President before Friday, which ight induce him to extend the executive leniency. On Thursday last ho was harnessed anew, both “hand and foot,’' and on tho following morning, to tho great surprise of the jailor, his rnana*. ides were off, and the hot part of the joko hope-fur peace, happiness and prosperity is, thoy cannot ho found.
