Methodist Annual Conference.
FIFTH DAY.
Macon, Ga., Nov. *z0, 1806.
Tho Conference mot at 9 o'clock a. m.,
pursuant to adjournment. Bishop Piorco
in the chair.
Opening religious exercises conducted
bp liev. A. H. Adams.
The minutes of Saturday wore road and
approved.
Rev. J. K. Evans submitted a roporl as
Chairman of the Committed on Qie Book
nnd Publication Interest. The report
shows that $60,000 connected with that in
terest were lost by the failuro of the Con
federate and Stato currency. Tho report
further shows that tho Depository was un
der tho necessity of going into liquidation:
and that tho butiness of tho concern bad
already been wound up, and that .1. W.
Burko Co. are now doing business on
their own private account. Tho report
compliments J. W. Burko for his efficient
management of the affairs of the Deposito
ry, and acquits him of all blame for the
manner in which it was found necessary
to close the agency.
Rev. J. W. Burke explained to tho Con
ference that although he had, from tho ne
cessities of the case, been forced to discon
tinue the business of the Depository as its
agent, still he would bo glad to accomo
date aDy of tho brethren with tho hooks
they might need, except that he could not,
as before the war, give any time on pur
chases made. Mr. Burko also informed
the Conference that Tho Child’s Guide
had been discontinued for the present, on
accountof the burning of the office from
which it had boon issued; but ho was will
ing to renew tho publication of tho paper
if sufficient encouragement wero given.
The report was adopted.
