For the purpose of protection of the persons
and property «>1 the citizens of this place during
tho Christmas week, the following regulations
have been thought expedient, by both Military
and Civil Authorities:
I. All person* found upon the streets aftor
9.3U r. m., from Dee, 24th, Dxx>. to January 2d,
1366, will be arrested and hr. ught before the
said authorities to give an account of them
selves.
“*TI. No persons shall be exempt from this reg
ulation excopt military and civil officers, on
iluty, including tho Mayor and Aldermen, who
are supposed to be on duty at all times Added
to this, all Physicians are exempt and are re
quested u> apply to the Mayor for passes to
cover the time.
III. There shall he six stations, in different
parts of the city ; each station to be the head
quarters of the Putrols and Police Assigned to
it. When u person violating the 1st paragraph
of thin order is arrested, he shall bo conveyed
to the head-quarters of the district in which he
is arrested and he subjected to the inspection
of the officers, civil and military, on duty a
that post.
IV. It has, for powerful reasons, been con
sidered best for all snloons and bar-rooms, and
places where liquor is sold, to he closed during
all the time abovo alluded to. Tide order la
peremptory und will bo obeyed. In default a
One of F100 will be eulorced, and also take pos
session of tho bar-room.
It will be seen at once by all order-loving and
law-ohoying citizens that tlnso regulations, it
properly cu'orced, will hav^j the effect of pre
venting disturbances of any magnitude in the
city. I.ct every person, both citizen nnd sol
dier, consider him&elf bound to use the influ
ence he may have, to secure peace and quiet
during the time above ulludcd to. It is not the
intention of the authorities to curtail any of
the libortio.- of the citizens, except in cases of
extreme necessity, and this rerun to demand
such a course.
