tiig PnxBiDgRT’s.VxTo.—A late Wash
ington dispatch eayi that the Radical* are
preparing lor a veto niussage on the Die-
trict Suffrage Bill, 1 n the Senate they
claim sufficient atrengtb to pass it over the
President's head by a majority of three
votes, provided there Is no dodging. In
the House the vote tual passed it originally
will overrides veto, provided alto, there it
no dodging. But the probability <• that
if Mr. Johnson makes ip hie mind to de
feat the proposition, be will readily find
friends enough to be on tha tick list or at
hams w hen the decided vote is being taken
to enable him to accomplish his purpose.
The bill is being held back in thaSenateto
enable tho R tdfcsls to bring some pressure
to bear on tbe White H>nao before it i*

Tub "First" and tub "Second"
Empire.—A Paris correspondent writes
A very clover caricature of the faihioni
of tbe present empire appears in tbe shop
windows of Siraudin, the dramatin au
thor, who a few yean since turned oon-
lectioner. On one
opening on the Uao de
ty effigy of the
little larger than hire. Tom Thumb.
The bead, I believe, is made of some
sweet stuff, which to the eye simulated
wax; aud tbe body is said to be stuffed
with augar plums. But aa the robes,
whiuh hang so grnoefully around this
image, are the nhief medium of Convey
ing the satire, they require a more de
tailed description. The dressmaker's
art eoems to hare boon exhausted in
giving to a rich white satin skirt em-
broiderod with silver, and a crimson velvet
train with like garniture a graoefu I sweep.
Tho drapery falls in euoh a way ae to
show tbe form it seems to hide. A sim
ile frill of that Boft yellow lace so prised
y Frenchwomen, breaks the harshness
of the contrast between the neok and
the stuff tbe drers is made of The
head is adorned with a diadem rich yet
chaste, and there is no superfluous jewel
ry on neok, breast, or arms. In short,
tbe charming orcole lady whose soft
manners, to some extent, rodeemod the
camp rue'enoss of Bonaparte’s oourt, is
there beforo you; au d the scores of peo
ple who crowd round Siraudin's door do
not peed to read the inscription, “First
Umpire," to know whom the effigy is
meant to represent. The other side of
the door, and facing Josephine, is a lady,
given as the type of the -Scoond Em
pire." She is in morning street dress.
The gcnoral idea is that “she is walking
in the Bois." Her skirt is of delioate
India muslin. On each breadth there is
a little liovo, painted by some artist
who understands the management of
flesh tints. Along the seams are gar
lands of roses, which end in festoons.
The tunio is what M. Pelletan oalls of
"the genus street sweeper." It trails
tloug behind tho wearer, and displays a
heavy trelliswork of brass at its lowest
extremity one -lourth at least of the depth
of the whole garment. The too mathe
matical regularity of this trellis is agree
ably diversified with brats knobs, bells,
and zeccius, which are reproduced on a
scarf and on the body. Chains, also
brazen, descend from bags ot hair that
keep up a little bonnet which seems to
be entirely composed of beads, bugles,
humming birds, and flowers. Tbe suo-
cess - of this caricature ie very greet.
Tbe Charivari lias repeated it, and the
story runa that Siraudin has been obliged
to take down the inscriptions looked upon
his images, whroh merely informed tbe
public that one of them was tbe first aud
the other the second empire, and leave
it to them to judge of the progress of the
latter.
Every family in Mississippi ought to
become as productive as possible.—
