COM Mlil'H, OEORUIAl
SUNDAY DECEMBER 21, 1873. 1
Next Sunday wo will publish a thor
oughly original paper. Every item, ex
cept tolograma, will he from Southern
pen*.
■\Yr, will guarantee that there in not one
young man connected with the Literary
and Library Association of this oity who
Is so thoughtless aa to be a church door
inspector.
Owing (oan accident near Butler, yes
terday aftornoon, we did not reoeWa our
Northern mail or State exohanges, which
fact will acoount for the absence of the
usual State news to be found in the Sun
day Enqumer.
Ookouxsm, from whom no mu oh was
hoped, it seems, from appearances, will
adjourn for the holidays without taking
nny action on the finance question. Pinch-
back and the salary-grab have occupied
too much time, it seems, to pay any at
tention to tho wants of the people.
There was a .young man.in onr city;
Put on his Sunday rig—what a pity,
For to reach the churoh door;
Ilia vest and pants he tore,
And spoiled! an inspector for the city.
Dean Swift's lecture and Bill Arp’s are
so much (dike, that'our compositors have
revolted, and swear they are willing to set
up ono of thorn, but to do two in succes
sion; is asking a little too nincb from
class of men who do not claim descent
from Job. Wo are in a quandary, but we
will fix it right, if wo have to get ono
copy set up North.
The Methodist Episcopal churoh
throughout tho Htato is looking anxiously
to the Mucon Conference. Some of the
Methodist clergymen in our city nndor
tho inevitable ruling of church discipline
Will 1* forced to leave ns, and for thia we
are hoart fly sorry, as they are all good
Christian ge ntlemen, and we would part
from any of thorn with regret. This rul
ing is the one ubjootion we have to that
church. As soon as a good man takes
root in tho ntfootions of the people he is
pulled up and transplanted in another
vineyurd.

A largo two story house is being ereoted

Bveryhody about Crawford belongs to

There have recently been soveral valu

FROM EUROPE.
SOUTHERN ENTERPRISE.
Fur two months Captain .1. H. Miller
superintendent of agencies for the South
ern Life Insurance Company, ban beoa
in onr city, working in tho interest of his
fine organization. Apart from hia calling,
the Captain has won a host of friends by
hia gontlomauly boariug, intelligent labor
and indomitable will, so that uow on tho
©vo of bis departure, we fool as if we
were going to loso an old friend. The
Boutbovn Life Insurance Company is au
institution that Georgia and the South
needs. At prusont, noarly $40,000,000
go North to pay premiums on
policies held South and this
immense sum is iuvostod and circu
lated iu the very section where it brings
least benefit to tho South. If we could
keep one-half that aum home, viz: $20,-
000,000, tkero would bo just so much add
ed to the Actual working oapital of the
country, and oousoqueutly to the iuorease
of our annual woalth. How long are we
to stand in our own light aud be captivat
ed by a more name I* We oannot tell, but
we can answer, that so long as we do, the
Southern States will grow poorer, till iu
their very poverty thoy fall a prey to any
Goth or Vandal who may come to buy
thorn out. Wo have faith in tho Southern
Lifo Insurance Company, aud every con
fidence iu its oftlcors—uot ouly in Captain
Miller, but iu tho offioors of the Colum
bus Hrauoh, who, from the President
down, mo our ablest and inoat reliable
citUeua.
So grunt is our faith in this Company,
that wo have taken from it an additional
$10,000 on our life, aud before another year
pauses we will transfer twice that amount
from Northern compauieu to this one, aud
so sot an cxnaiplo iu our own doctrines.
Iu the meaulime wo wish Captain Miller
deserved suooosu and prosperity to tho
Boutin ru Lifo Insurance Company.
