DAILY ENQUIRER-guy; TUESDAY MORNING, SEPTEMBER 15, 1874. <2E*MKA KEWN, —Hon. Rufus E. Lester has accepted the Democratic nomination for Senator of the First District. —The Savaua&h Advertiser reports an “immense increase of game in the vicini ty 0 { its city, as the renalt of the opera tion of the game law. —Bine—who is “ao bine that he’> Mack”—has been nominated for re-elec tion as Representative of Glynn county by the negroes. —Eight hundred acres of river bottom land were a dd at a Sheriff's sale in Ap pling county recently for the inunitioeut sum of ten dollars. —The Americas boasts of n stalk of cotton containing 1 hi bolls on it, not counting squares or blossoms. It was raised by Mr. B. M. Wheeler. —A lla lied Convention to nominate a candidate for Congress'in the Dth Dis trict, is to bo held iu Gainesville on the 18th of September. —The Savannah Netre thinks that there is now a fair prospoct of such improve ments on Tybes islaud as will make it the “Long branch of the South." —An old negro former living near Griffin makes a hauds-jme income by hunling into that city and selling tile min eral water from a spriuglately discovered. —Five more of tho convicts made their escape from Mr. Taylor, iu Washington county, Wednesday of last week. Ouo hnndred dollars reward is offered for the lot, —Corn is now quoted in Atlanta at $51 15<g>1.20 by tho oar load, and wheat at #1.15(5)1.40. Can anybody fix the “good nine coining" wheu we are to have that corn at 50o. por bushel in Georgia ? —Additional Democratic nominations for the Legislature are Owen C. Sherman in Upson, \V. L. Graham in Dooly, Mes sers J. M. Marshall and W. H Searcy in Talbot, and D. W. Pattman and Dr. T. D. Hutcheson iu Oglethorpe county. —The Sandersvillo Herald says the two negro men who were killed in that county a few weeka ago by a falling tree, left oue « son and the other a daughter, agod some twelve or fourteeu years. On Sun day last the girl stabbed tho hoy, inflict ing a wound from which he died Tuesday. —The Rochdale Register publishes an appointment or Hon. John H. James to address the peoplo of that connty on the Olh of October. The Register declares in favor of James for Governor, because of “his probity, piety, and great financial ability.” Exactly! —The Covington Enter prut says. Co'.. W. R. Phillii ps, of Atlanta, is now busily engaged at Newton Factory, with a corps of assistants, putting up a cotton factory. The budding has been finished, a portion of the machinery has arrived, and is being rapidly placed in position; and in a few weeks over two thousand spindles will be in operation. —A white and a colored polioemen of Macon arrested near that city, on Friday, one James H. Rivers, charged w th em battling the fuuds of Barnwell District, S. 0. Rivers is a white man to all up- pe trance, but claims to be a negro, prob ably became he thinks he will be more leniently dwelt with iu South Carolina by calling himsolf colored. —A Radical aspirant for the Legisla ture is recommended by the Gainesville Advertiser, because “he kuows exactly ho# much sweat it takes to muke a bushel of corn.” Aud we infer from tho Adver tiser editor’s solicitudo about free distill eries in North Georgia, that he knows exactly iuto how much “sweat" the bushel ru can be resolved. —Tho Atlanta Herald is authorized to make the announcement that lion. B. H. Hill will address the people of the Second ongrcs iou.il District at points tbrongh- ut the District during the coming can- ass. He has roeoived very pressing invi tation* from the Executive Committee of the District, and does not feel justified iu refusing. The Herald also says that it is possible Mr. Hill will addross the people of Alabama before the election. Good! Butler on the Stamp. Gloucester, Mass., September 12.— Gen. butler opened tho Congressional canvass in E-SbX district to night with an elaborate speech, mainly on national top es. After announcing himself as a enu- idste for Congress nnd explaining that he state of his health has prevented Lim rom appearing before his constituents util to-day, ho proceeded to consider the utrages in the (South and draw a com- ariaon between tho protectiou to her ubjects by Great Britain aud that given y the United St«tes to the loyal citizens the South, us f dlows: The king of a barbarous tribe iu Af- ca took tivu Englishmen prisoners who ere peacefully trading in his country, d marched them to his capital.
