It says that the matter has been adjusted. —The report that U. W. Carpenter had been convicted, at BlackRhear, of the murder of his nephew W. L. Cole, was ftneorrect. The jury brought in a verdict of “not guilty” on Friday morning. —Macon voted, on Saturday, on the question of endorsing the bonds of her street railroad. The endosement was carried by a vote of 821) to 8451. Tho endorsement is for the amount of $20,- 000. —The West Point Press reports that Tube White, colored, committed a rape on the wife of Henry Mitchell, also col ored, ou the afternoon of the 5th inst., and was arrested on Wednesday afternoon last and committed to j dl. —The Chronicle and Sentinel sajs it waa reported in Augusta, on Tuesday, that ». Huger, of Charleston, had bceu appointed agent at that point of the South Caeolina Railway, vice Captain Butler, murdered by the negro, Murrell. —The Bainhridge Democrat is informed of the killing of two negroes in Miller fcoanty, on Saturday before last, by a drunken white mm named Joseph Ever- •It. He rushed into a crowd, consisting of both whites and black, with a knife in his hand, aud stabbed two negro men. He waa promptly arrested and committed to jail. —United States Commissioner Virgil Hillyer was arrested iu Savannah, lost Wednesday, at the instance of an old ne gro woman, who alleged that he had de frauded her out of a Government claim amounting to seven hundred dollars.
