before the day of tho election, not on y
to save time, but because preliminary
regal ration will serve as a reminder to
the voter aud an aid in getting him to
the pi ice of voting. Tho beat commit
tees cannot hotter discharge their duties
than by attending closely to this business
of registration.
It is also important that no one who is
not registered should bo allowed to vote.
Hundreds of Radical votes in the Ala
bama counties udj icent to Georgia may
bo excluded by n eloso inspection of the
rigisfrotiou lists. Tho Opelika Timr.a
raises a timely note of warning when it
sugges s that tho pri sence of loading Ala
bama negroes in Columbus may bo to
make arrangements for tbo importation
of illegal voters from Geo’g a. There
are uo.v severe Alabama laws against such
il'egul voting, und u l who ul'ompt it
iliould not only be prevt uted from voting
but promptly urrosted. A eloso inspec
tion of tho registration tin's may lead to
th^ detection of many engaged in frauds
of this kind.
A full registration of all Conservative
whites, aud the prevention of illegal vot

WE MUST tiO TO WORK !
Wo havo rtliublo inf< r mat ion thr.t the
Radicals intend to make a st< nt fight for
their Legislat vo ticket in Mu^ci’geo coun
ty. When Ketchmu nnnounced, a few
nights ago, tho number of white and
black defaulters in the payment of taxes,
tho s atoment wussiguillcantof a determi
nation to quilify every Radical voter for
the election. We believe that ho stated
tho number of white defaulters at about
1(10, and of negro defaulters about 5'»0.
Wo are now informed that the Radical
party have commenced arrangements for
the qnliflcntbm of their defaulters, and
we know that this means a determination
to make a stout contest of tho election—
nothing else. Kcttlium also, in his revela
tions of Radio d secrets, told us how tnon-
oy was raised for put poses of this kiud,
and tho liborulity of Ihe “assessments"
indicates that enough money will bo made
up to qualify every negro willing to vote
the lUdionl ticket. The*piyment of tax
os is of course a tribu'o which every citi-
z**u owes to the State, but it is not one
which the ltadic d party, with all its
“loyalty" and pa'riot ism, will assume
without some other stimulus.
It will not do far the Democrats of
Muscogeo to rely on their former easy
r titii| hu. Wo know that thoro is a small
u-gro majority in tho county, and wo do
not kuow that all the negroes who have
heretofore voted tho DciuoLT.tio ticket
wi 1 do so this year; neither do we know
how many white Democrats will neglect
to vote if tho present state of inactivity
con inues. We ought to bo organizing—
canvassing-—working. One week more
nil biiug on the olec'ion for Urpresouta-
ives to the Legislature, and wo havo done
io:hijg more than to adjust aud reconcile
he perscual differences in our own pnr-
y. Wo h *ve not fired a single shot at
he enemy yet! Wo have not even form
ed the lino for the decisive engagement
of next week ! It is time to be up and
doing. Do^not roly upon the strength
jf tho party alone. It will prove ineffi
cient if not aroused to action. A week
muieo it will be too Inte to lament our
false security. If wo mean to bo suro of
the < lu ti n ot two good Den.ocra s ami
com| otiu’ men to represent Muscogee,

Election* In UeoreT.
Voters should boar in mind that ouly
tnotuber* of tho Lcgialn'uro arc to be
eleited next week. The following is the
election schedule:
Fir-tWednesdav in October, election for
member* of tbo Legislature.
First Tuesday io November, election
for members ot Congress.
Ftr.*t Wednesday m January, 1875,
elo tion for county officers.
The Leg slative reason for disconnect
ing tho t“tate aud C mgreasioual elections
was the Avoi lance of Federal supervision
of tha former. The Federal Government
olnims the right to appoint supervisors at
all elections in the States for Presidential
eral of this gang, including Wilson,
Simms and Devaux, went to Darien las
week to bring the negroes of McIntosh
into the support of Bryant. They held
their meeting and poured out all their
eloquence and abuse. When they wete
through, old Tunis took the stand and
administered to them snch a castigation
as they little expected to receive. The
negroes were almost without division
the aide of Campbell, and tho demon
strations against tho Bryant londor-i be
came so threatening that thoy had to seek
protection from the Democrats, who es
corted thorn t.ufely out of Dariou.

they may, for uuIohh wo havo a plank
