Watt was foreman, held an inqaeat at 10 o’ciook yesterday over the body of Henry Howard, colored, killed the previous night on the bluff by Ike Johnson, oolorod. The jury roturned n verdict to the offect that Howard came to hia death by a bail fired from a pistol in the hands of said Ike Johnson. Tho jury considered the oaso one of oold blooded murder. At onr first stand, Mobile, on election night, (as you know always a bard night for theatri cals) Mr. Powell notified his agent, Mr. Spslding, that he eonld not furnish money to pay theatre rent, local expenses, or even railroad fares to the next town, as he bod agreed in his contraot. We are left In the middle of the Booth, *1,500 out of pocket, and no printing with which to start ahead, as we gave Mr. Powell *800 worth in advanee, and we cannot recover any of it. This is our first trip through the Sonth nnder any management save onr own, and it shall be the last. We hope to take yonr city on our own account at no distant date. Mr. Powell's agent promised to notify yonr city in ample time to atop tho sale of seats, but neglocted to do ao. We intend to hold Mr. Powell legally responsible for his nou-performanee of oontract. Smith aud other dis tinguished gentlemen v will deliver ad- dromes. It is expected that thousands will bo present to honor onr distinguished Governor, and the late viotory of the Conservatives throughout the country. The Chief Magistrate of our State is from Muscogee, aud the people should turn out en masse. The meeting is called by direotion of lion. M. J. Crawford, Chairtnau of the Executive Committee of tho Democratic party of Muaoogee. Death In Girard. Mr. Eugene Kimbrough, a worthy young man, w’ho for eighteen months had been a clerk in the store of Mr. D. N. Gibson, died at the residence of Mrs. Gi!>- sou, in Girard, on Monday afternoon loot, at 2 o’clock, pf typhoid fever. His re mains wore yesterday sent up by North aiul South Railroad to his parents in Har ris oouuty. Jh Interesting Law Cave. Ou© has been on the books for some time whioh is about os follows: Mr. Jeff Johnson rented a store of Mr. Joseph Kylo. Johnson was agent of the Wheeler A Wilson 8owing Machine Company. He deposited with the Chattahoochee Nation al Bank, and had $150 when he left the oity. Mr. Kylo guarnisbeed tho bank for the raouey to pay the rent. Wheeler A Wil son Company claimed the money as their own and not Johnson’s, and, also, we be lieve, that the latter was not their agent. Agroeably to its order, the bank paid tho money into court, and that tribunal, aftor a hearing, ordered paid to Kylo. Now the attoruoys of the oompouy are suing the bauk for $150, on acoouut of claimed illegality in paying the amount into Court All tho bank was en doavoring to do was to obey the orders of the Court and let the parties entitled to have the money. The caso has hitherto been won by the bank. Yesterday some differences occurring between the recol. lections of the Judge and counsel, the case was “heelod” and ia to be heard before some member of the bar acting as Judge for tho time. A Conference with the Governor. The joint committee appointed from the City Council aud Chamber of Com merce, whose names we published, hold a conference yesterday with Gov. Smith in relation to tho action necessary to be taken by Columbus to secure her interest in tho North and South Railroad. Noth ing was done exoept the appointing a committee to submit in writing what the city is willing to do in the matter, which proposition his Excellency will submit to the Legislature. Tho sub-committee thus appointed con sists of T. E. Blanchard, John Mollhenny and Maj. A. M. Allen, who will consider and submit a proposition this afternoon at 4 o’olook. We understand from a member of the general committee that strong hopes are entertained that a plan will bo consum mated which will prevent an immediate sale of tho road. Cary, who was yesterday run ning the gin at the Eagle and Phenix Manufactory,had nearly all the flesh sawed off his arm from the shoulder to the hand. The breast of the gin was raised, and while ho was looking for something and feeding at the same time, his arm came into, oontroot with the Baws. The band was instantly thrown off, and the gin stopped. The bones of the arm are not iujnred, but the wpunds are exceedingly paiuful.
