One account says: “When young Prince Louis Napoleon, two or throe years ago, made a descent upon France, a remarkable omen attended him. An imperial eagle swept from the sky and perched upon hia shoulder. Huw mnch destiny was in this eagle is tbu« de scribed by a Paris editor: Twos in Loudon at the time the Prince was eduoatiug tho famous eagle. Every morning the Prince, clod in the traditional costume of the Em peror, placed himself in the centre of the large gurdeu attached to the homo in which he lodged. Iu the top of the im mortal cocked hat was placed a beefsteak. The eagle, kept hungry till this hour, was launched into the air from a remote cor* uer of the grounds, and after wheeling around once or twice, he punctually des cended to the cooked hat, wherein was served bis breakfast. It was thought nec essary that the multitude should be aston ished with seeing the imperial bird whis per to the Prince tbe counsel he brought down from the Emperor on high. Occa sionally, therefore, his breakfast was mis sing, and as he was found, with all hia dignity, a bird capable of a pin alter, a morsel of broiled ham was placed in the Prince’s ear, when, not fluding the steak, he would lean over and daintily pick it from its hiding place.’ ” Tbe claims of Louis Napoleon at this time began to be agitated in France. The government organs said if ho was elected President the country would be ruined. An amendment was proposed iu the As sembly against the Bonapartists. Louis arose in tbe Assembly and made a short speech, disavowing tho applications of ‘Pretender” in the name of the 300,000 electors who had twno honored him with their suffrages, Tbe government organs claim his effort as a disastrous failure, he was no speaker and had no ability. M. Anthony Thouret arose, and in a tone of contempt, stated after what he had heard he was quite satisfied that his fears of the Pretender” were exaggerated, and that his amendment was useless, aud therefore he withdrew it.
