Lang, the present Superinten dent, the Alabama and Georgia Mills are Iturniug out 120,000 yards of goods month- -Tho Constitution says that on Satur day Mr. L. L. Lamar, the tax collector of Hancock county, made his final Bettle- uent for this year’s taxes with the comp troller. The taxes of that county amount > about $17,500. Mr. Lamar is the first bn the list this year. —Rev. Dr. Irvine, of Augusta, after preaching at Thompson, ou Wednesday ast, took the train for Milledgeville, and Chile standing ou the platform of a car, b-t his balance and fell, breaking one of |is ribs. Gibson and Mr. Nick Thorapkins, both of i that place, in which Mr. Gibson was, I it is feared, fatally cut. They had a quarrel in a bar loom, and Gibson dealt Thompkins a severe blow with a stick he had in his hand, partially felling him to the ground. The parties then closed with 1 each other, Gibson using his stiok, and I Thompkins his knife, with terrible effect. I The parties were separated by friends, I when Tbompkius was found to be badly I bruised about the head, and Gibson w&b I very severely cut in the back and aide. At llast accounts Mr. Gibson was in a critical |conuitfon. —The Atlanta correspondent of the An- gustu Chronicle, noticing the late meeting F of the lessees of the State Road, says: “It j is now reported that the road is in better I condition than it has been for twenty I years, and the impression is gaining J ground that tho lease company has appro- I printed all its net earnings to repairs,to the | purchase of new engines, and new rolling ■’Stock. It is probable, that now the com- I pany has placed the road in first-class or- | dor, that they have met the great major!- I ty of their obligations, and will soon be- , gin to realize handsome profits from their investment. In five years it is predicted j that the State Road will be one of the most profitable piooes of property in the State. Having expended large amonnts of money on the road, without any cor responding income for a number of years, and having at last mado the road prosper ous, and highly profitable, it ia highly , probable that the lessees will be averse to permitting the road to revert to the State at the expiration of the term of lease, [.about flfteoo years hence.” Chmst and the Apostles were a “clique’ | do the Romans.
