DAILY ENQUIRER-SUN: COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, FRIDAY, DECEMBER ll, 1874. domestic matters. I MiCCABOSI with ChMSB.—Boil mBeos- ' ■>< in water until soft, drain off the we- it with a little batter, season to the taste >nt Into a dish, and , then stew i and cheese; i salt and epioes; po « in a hot oxen to hi i QinoBB Ptromno.—One cap of desses, one cap of sugar, one egg, one of milk, o ne teaspoonful of saleratns, to taste, and an, kind of fruit pre- j Mix about as stiff as soft gingei. id, and bake it about aa long. jistbb Omelbt.—Whisk four eggs to a |ck frotb, then add by degrees one gill cream, beat them wall together; season eggs with pepper and salt to taste, re re*d, one doien line oysters, out jm in half; pour the eggs into a psn of it butter and drop the oysters oxer it as ually as yon can Cheap Molasses Qikuebbbbad. —One iblespoonful lard; one cupful good mo- is; one oupful boiling water; one tea- oful ginger; one of eode, salt and This is a very nice breakfast or cake, eaten hot with butter. —Diphtheria has been very prevalent n Anstris, and one of ths' moat success ful remedies is said to have been a few drops of sulphuric acid in a tumbler full of water. The result of this mixture is laid to be a coagulation of the dipththe- Title membrane and its ready removal by soughing. i Mr. Elias Moore gives the Pearson Pioneer the following ours tor rattlesnake I bite: Wild indigo root boiled in sweet imilk until it becomes very strong, and * given freely. Mr. Moore says he saws negro cured with this remedy who had ‘ been bitten by a largo rattlesnake, f —A patent has recently been taken out in France for the preparation of leather from tripe intestines, and other animal membranes. These are soaked in milk of lime while still fresh, then washed in wa- ! ter, and finally immersed In a paste made of starch and white of an egg. The sub stance thus formed is to be used for glove making, etc., and may also be tanned or curried. Gbiddls Cakes, Waffles, Eto.—If you have not used your waffle iron for some time, wash it off dean with hot soap and water; wipe and rub well with dry salt. Heat it, and greaae with a bit of fat salt pork, ou a fork. It is a mistake, besides being slovenly and wasteful, to put more grease than is absolutely necessary to pre vent the cake from sticking. A piece of K rlt an inch square should last for several ys. Put ou a grod spoonful of batter for eaoh cake, and before filling the grid dle, test it with a single cake, to be sure that all is right with it as well as the batter. The same rules apply to waffles. Always lay hot cakea and waffles upon a hot plate as soon as baked. Pheskrvatiom of Fecit.—Tho following method for tbe preservation of fruit has been patented in England. The fruit is placed in a vertical vessel in layers, sepa rated by layers of pulverised white sugar, and is then covered with alcohol of 80 degrees Gay Luesae. After 12 hours the closed vessel is inverted and the macera tion allowed to continue for 12 to 72 hours, according to the nature of the fruit, which is then removed and allowed to drain and dry. About two pounds of sugar and two pouuda of aloohol are recom mended for four pounds of fruit. Cavities in the Lohos.—A peouliar method of treating pulmonary cavities in phthisis, pursued by Prof. Moser of Wiesbaden, is described ss consisting in the injootiou of oertain drugs through the wall of the chest, and leaving t! canula in so as to repeat the operation at discretion. He has even made an inois- ion into tbe wall of the cavity, inserted silver tube or elastic catheter, and suc ceeded in drawing away the secretion and disinfeeting tbe pyogenic walls by means of weak carboliueoid lotion. It is stated that no difficulty was experienced in the operation, and tbe condition of tbe patient was improved, the oough becom ing less troublesome and the febrile symp toms apparently moderated. One point it least is regarded as settled—and it is certainly one of great importance —so far as oould be by a few experiments of this oharactor, namely, that the looal treatment of pulmonary cavities is un doubtedly practicable, and tbat the lung is really more tolorant of external inter- feranoe than has been generally believed Constipation, Jaundice, Pain la the Shoulders, Cough, Chills, Dissiuces, Sour Stossa-.h, Bad Taste in the Mouth, Bilioite Attacks, Palpitation ol the Heart, Depression of Spirits, or the Bines, and a hundred other symptoms, for which 81MMONB' LIVER KKOCLA’IOK le the beet remedy that hae ever been diecorercd. His assistants are now in Floyd county, and will soon pass into Polk. Mr. C. A. Lock, engineer, has been lately de termining the elevations of the mountain of Fine Log, Fairmount and Alatoona. A heavy bed of Baryta has been discov ered near Alatoona. This is the heaviest of the earths, tbe speoifio gravity being nearly five times tbat of water. It is fre quently used in adulterating white lead. Mr. Seaborn Jones, brother of the Stele Treasurer, has on hit premises a peouliar sort of rook, which oau be turned in a lathe, admitting a nice polish, and mnoh resembling wood. Fine specimens of copper ore in a new locality, in Carroll oounty, have been found by Mr. R. J. Gaines. A new gold mine has also bceo opened in that county by Mr. John O. Drake, for yeara a popular conductor on tba Savan nah, Griffin and North Alabama Bailroad. According to the analysis of Professor Lend, the ore pans '2,51,8 to ths ton. Mr. Beck, of Macon, haa bought three- fourths of the shares in the copper urine on tbe railroad, fonr miles from Carroll ton, formerly owned by Measrs. Barnes, Coleman end Sawtell. Prof. Little was highly gratified at the interest in the survey manifested by many of the substantial citixeno of Borne, and was placed under obligations for special favore from Dr. Hillyer, a geologist, Col. We learn from the leading paokars hen that they are holding off from baying hogs for prices far below the present quota tions, which will most sorely come in the next week or tea days, as private tele- grime received from Louisville late yes terday show a falling off from three- 2 uarters to a cent ainca Friday, with a ownward tendency. We are aora, from all tbe late advioes wa can gat, that plant- art and other consumers will do well to hold off for e few days, as all the paekera here say they will not be in the market again unless prioea range far below pres ent quotations. — Atlanta Herald, VIA. wui lepuiwr oau 11 •pccting tbe mapB of i ▼oy of Georgia, from nanriina.
