Cincinnati, January 4.—The Cincin
nati Price Current'• eeoond preliminary
report of hog packing in tbs West is pub
lished. It is safe to say that returns have
been received from over three hundred
end forty pecking points outside the cit.
iea of Cincinnati, Chicago, 8t. Louis,
Louisville, Milwaukee end Indianapolis.
At these interior points, which packed
last season within about 110,000 of all ths
hogs paoked outside the six eities named,
ths indications ore that ths packing at
points which have close! and estimated
for the season at others, show a falling
off iu numbers, amounting to about one
hundred and seventy thousand, compared
with last season. Definite conclusion re
garding weights have not been arrived at,
but it appears evident that tha later peck
ing has been of an improved eharaeter as
compared with earlier bogs, and there
has been some reduction in the amount
of average shortage in weights as shown
in the previous reports. Hogs yet to
oouie forward are expected to average
heavier than for the corresponding part
of last season. The number paoked at
the six cities named is reported at two
million three hundred and twenty-five
thousand to this date, and tha peeking at
all points to the last of December is ap-
proximated at four millions, against a
similar number a year ago. It may ba
remarked that ths retnrna giving tha esti.
mate for this report bear dates lines De
cember 34th.
