CONCRE88.
DIFFERING A MONO TBEMIELVEE AE TO WHAT
TO DO.
Washington, January 24.—Tha Re
publican Senators held a oaucus on Sat
urday which oonlicued for scscrel hoars.
The chief topic wee the condition of the
South, bat there being conflicting views
no result was reached. The canons, in
stead af giving their views on the Lou
isiana question, agreed to await the action
of the Committee on Privileges end Elec
tions on the Pinohbaok credentiale, and
will prefer to be governed in the Senate
by the committee's report. Some of
them saw no escape from tha present
difficulties in that State except by re
manding it to a territorial condition. By
this means they could avoid the compli
cations growing out of the official recog
nition of the Kellogg government, and
open e way by which order may be re
stored. Others thought a stronger hand
might be stretohed towards several of the
Southern States. Otherwise might be
anarchy. Thera were opinions different
from thoss expressed by tha more con
servative Senators. All seemed to com
prehend the difficulties of the situation,
but there was no p'an presented as a
means of relief.
THE HOD8I WANTS THE BATOXET.
There was e large attendance at tha
House Republican caucus Saturday night
as to what is bast to bs dona in view of
the present condition of the South, but
none of the means reported at tha previ-
ons oancua were acted upon.
Finally a resolution was adopted, plac
ing the power of passing all publio aota
with the majority of the House. As reso
lutions for this purpose will probably be
introduced in the House on Monday, end
when adopted will have the effect of evad
ing tha two-third rule as to publio acta,
including oivil rights, the more energetic
enforcement of protective lews in the
Booth, and authorizing tha President to
suspend the writ of habeas oorpus in cer
tain rases, together with other meeanree
which have been the snbjoct of considera
tion by the Canons Committee. The pro
ceedings are reported to have been bar-
menions, and tha resalt is entirely satis
factory to the party.

have tor many years obstructed the progress of
medical science. The lalse supposition that
“Consumption li Incurable’* deterred ph>sl-

themselves to death without making au effort
to escape from a doom which they supposed to
be unavoidable. It is now » roved, however,
that Contumption can be cured, and that it hat
been oure4l in a very great number of cases
(some of them apparently desperate ones) by

rasos by the same medicine In connection with
