PINCHRACK S CASE POSTPONED TO DECEM
BER.
Washington, March 17.—Pinehbsok’s
case was up Tuesday.
Alcoru advocated Pinchbeck’s admis
sion, although he sigued at lest session a
report against him. He based bis change
upon the vote of the House, recognising
Kellogg.
Dawes said he thought Alcorn miscon
strued the resolution passed by the House.
He (Dawes) did not understand the reso
lution when he voted for it iu the House
as declaiming Kellogg the legal Governor
of Louisiana. The House simply voted
that it would recognize Kellogg as the
Governor of Louisians. He had no idea
of voting upon the legality of either Me-
Entry or Kellogg. The House purposely
avoided passing upon the legality of
either government in Louisiana. Upon
the question, by what right or authority
the government of Kellogg was iustalled,
the House took care not to express itself.
Mr. Edmond* made a very able argu
ment against Piuohbaok. He deniod the
right of the United States Senate to elect
a Senator, and tho admission of Pinch-
baok was doing that whioh Louisians had
not dons—making him a Senator. The
liberties of the State would ba in a rather
hopeless eondition, if (he determination
of the people as to who would be their
rulers was to bo confided to any body
whatever. An examination would show
that the Returning Board whioh declared
who were members of the Legislature
whioh elected Pinchback, never had auy
returns befors them. It roturusd them
as elected solely upon information.
At the conclusion' of Mr. Edmunds’
speech, whioh attraeted great attention,
there was applause in the galleries.
At 11:40 P. m., by a vote of 83 to 30,
the further consideration of tho subject
was post poned until the second Monday
in December. ThiB is considered as set
tling the Piuoeback question.
