Quarreling.
The eeriest end most perfectly foolish
absurdity of the age ia to quarrel, no met
ier with whom—man, woman or child—
upon any pretence, provocation or occa
sion whatever. There is no earthly
necessity for it—no use in it—end uo
benefit to be gained by it; yet, strange
the fact may be, theologians quarrel, the
ohurch quarrels; politioisns, lawyer,
doctors and princes join in: man, wo
men and ohildren, doge, oats, birds and
beasts, fuss abont all manners of tbinga
and on all occasions. After it ie all over
a man feels worse then anything can pro
duos, except pinohing his Angara ia the
door. No man (rile to think lean of him
self, after a quarrel, than before one. It
degrades him in hie own eyes, those of
others, creates pain and sorrow, and low
ers hia self-respect; and whan ha cornea
ont, aa ha moat generally does, van
quished, he feels aa moan aa a “yriler

New York ie the oily of magnificent
hotels. Bnt few people know or under
stand, however, the qualities necessary to
the management of n first-class hotel in
New York. Greet tact, rare judgment,
fine nerve, and what the Rev. Robert
Oollyer calls “tree grit,” all most be dis
played in the snooesafnl management.
Sometimes all these fail, bnt perhaps the
most notable instance of immediate and
permanent success is found in the steady
and iooreuing popularity of the Grand
Central Hotel, on Broadway, New York.
Combined with its msnagemsnt to a
great degree the Grand Central owes its
fine success to the liberal plan of adjust
ing its rales according io the location of
the room oconpied. This, with a bill of
fare bardly equaled by any hotel table in
New York, eix meals per diem, is seenred
at tha rate of from #8.00 to #4 00 per
