A case wbioh recently earns to light in
Berlin throngh tbe oourts, throws a sing-
alar light upon one phase of Prussian
life. Some time ainoe a non-commis
sioned officer of e regiment stationed at
Konigaberg committed suicide, and jnst
before tbe sot wrote e latter to a Berlin
journal explaining his motive. He bad
previously published certain faots highly
diiorediteble to two officers of bis regi
ment, end from that time they had perse
cuted him with every form of military
oroelty that tbe superior can visit upo n
the subaltern. No opportunity was of
fered to him to prove bis charges, and the
standing of the offieers screened them
from any investigation. Life, therefore,
btoame intolerable to the poor man, and
ha daoided on auioide. Tbe allegations
against tha two officers—s paymaster and
I believe e lieutenant—were repeated in
th* testamentary letter. But as soon as
this was published the entire Hue and
staff of the regiment—whioh seems to
have been less solioitonn about vindicat
ing its honor so long as tbe accuser lived
—hastened on this posthumous publica
tion to prosecute the newspaper for libel.
Tha eaae came before tbe Civil Court
here, and, much to tho surprise of all
parties, the jourual was acquitted.

oonolude, when he arose and delivered
himself of tbe following characteristic
jargon, wbioh can be attested by several
reputable witnesses, your correspondent
among the number:
