«•little MAUD."
We mean Genevieve liogers, who plays
Maud Muller Thursday night. 8he is sure
to draw one of the largest houses that
ever attended an entertainment in this
city. Already two-thirds of the reserved
seats have been taken, and everybody
epeaks of going. Miss liogers creates a
profound sensation wheresoever she may
go, and is invariably called out at each fall
of the curtain for the most earnest plaud
its of the enthused and admiring audience.
She is young and pretty—far more
bo than the displayed lithographs
indicate, and this, in connection with
her pleasant voice and modeBt style of
acting, classes her among the. best of the
profession. We try not to bestow lavish
praise except where merited, but in this
case we feel that we must urge all theatre
goers not to be delinquent in going to see
this fair one. She is the realistic of the
pastoral school, and her aoting is su
premely sweet.

ME A LB, ALABAMA.
Unwillingly we took the Mobile A Gi
rard 2:20 train and were in due time
landed in Scale, Ala. We fonnd the
town alive with people attending conrt,
whioh ia now being held, Jndge Hender
son, of Talladega Circuit, presiding. We
made the Judge's acquaintance. He is
about 50 years of age, has a good solid
look, pleasant manners and impressed ns
very favorably. We fonnd several of onr
lawyers in attondanoe: Messrs. J. M.
Hnsselt, Esq., Carey J. Thornton and A.
A. Dozier. We mot our old friend, Col.
Lyman W. Martin, who, as usual is
full of legal business.
There are no regular hotels in Seale,
bnt Mr. B. M. Henry and Dr. Chao. Wil
liams have each a largo and weli-farnished
private honso, where the traveler reoeives
kind attention and gets first-class fare.
Wo “sojourned” with Dr. W., and found
him and his excellent lady fnlly versed in
the art of knowing how to keep a hotel.
Mr. Henry is well known and a popular
host, and his quarters were well filled
with gnests.
This being our first visit to Seale, we
looked around the town, and mnBt con
fess that the original locator picked out a
poor and ill-suited spot, yet the people
have done mnoh to develop it. There are
Borno very nioe and comfortable residen
ces, and store houses indioate that Seale
is no one-horse town for trade.
The Messrs, nirsob Brothers have two
largo and elegant stores. We were mnoh
disappointed in the business of these gen
tlemen. We knew they commanded a
largo trado, and expected to find a well-
stocked country store, bnt on going
through their two spacious houses filled
with morohandiHe, and fonnd the two
proprietors and Borne Bix or eight clerks
busy attending the wants of a
crowd of customers, we wore rather sur
prised. They oarry an immense stook
of dry goods and grooories, and their es
tablishment would be a oredit to any city.
One day last week this firm sold over one
thousand dollars. How is that for a
conntry sloro ? We don’t suppose there
was a rotail inerohant in Columbus that
did as well. There are several other
merchants in Heale, with good stores. We 1 an(J at the reduoed pric08 deo idedly
would have liked to have interviewed
them, but we wore not acquainted, and | * be cheapest on the market,
