married,
Last evening at the residence in this oity
of the bride’s father, Mr. George Hanger-
ford, by the Rev. Dr. J. H. Nall, Mr.
John H. Johnston and Miss Georgia H.
Hnngerford. Rev. Dr. J. S. Key deliv
ered the prayer. No cards.
Present were some thirty persons—
close friends and relatives.
We congratulate our friend upon win
ning one of tho loveliest and worthiest
maidens in our city, and the fair bride of
securing a hnsband whom we regard as
among tho very first business yonng men
in this section. Mr. Johnston was lately
book-keeper in onr offioe, and gained the
esteem, confidence and friendship of
all, from the proprietors through the
lists. Ho is now with the Columbus Iron
•Works Company and we predict for him
successful future, for he has oapacity,
integrity, zeal, faithfulness and tireless
industry. To him and his charming
bride we extend, in behalf of proprietors
editors, and the entire offioe, that life
may be as happy as loving hearts can
paint it.
One interesting feature of the assem*
blago was the presence of four genera
tions of the bride’s family.
HON. HENRY W. HILLIARD.
It would seem from a dispatch publish
ed this morning, there is some opposition
to tho confirmation of onr former towns
man, Hon. Henry W. Hilliard, as Minister
to Brazil. Congressmen Stephens and
Harris, of Georgia, called on Mr.
Hayes yosterday to consult regard
ing the matter. Both will urge
tho confirmation. It is tho earnest wish
of this portion, at least of the district,
which defeated him so overwhelmingly
for Congress. He did more to bring out
Republicanism in the District than any
Republican could have done, but bo is a
distinguished gentleman, will represent
tho country honorably and with ability,
and wo are ardently desirous that he may
bo confirmed.

STILL CONVALESCING.
It is a oritical case, tho leg was “crush
ed,” but the’ patient is getting over it—
“over” or upon a new peg-log. Dr. Nix,
master surgeon of the M. and G. railroad,
did the job by taking a well-seasoned
piece of timber and making a new leg for
the suffering (?) Mr. Wall. The “suffer
ing” man had a Sunday “peg” to wear, so
ho was still whole-footed while an every
day one was being fixed by Burgeon
Nix. O my, we didn’t want to tell but it
is too good, so wo must. The above is ex
plained by reading the following from the
Times of the 24th instant:
“Mr. Wall, an employe at the South
western Railroad shops, met with a pain*
ful accident on Monday. He, with others
of his follow workmen, was handling a
heavy piece of iron, which by aooident
fell and crushed his leg. Medical assis
tance was at once called in. Mr. Wall is
now doing well, and we hope that he will
not bo long confined by this nnfortuuate
occurrence.”
Wo understand that the reporter of this
clipping, felt so much for the wooden
leg, that ho went ont to the Southwestern
depot to Hue about the “painful aooident”
and to learn if further “medical assis
tanoo” were nooded. It is very sad, very
sad indeed. The mutilated limb or
crushed wood can bo seen at onr offioe.
“Dead wood” on ono man, and leg-wood
on another. Well, reporters will grow
enthusiastic sometimes, will they not

MARION COUNTY.
SENATORIAL QUESTION.
A mooting of the Democratic party was
held at Buena Vista on Saturday, and ap
pointed a committee, consisting of Col.
W. B. Butt, Dr. E. T. Matthis and J. R.
Short as a delegation to consult with
Chattahoochee regarding rotation, and
agree upon which county was entitled to
the nomination for Senator. If it was
determined that Marion was entitled to
the nomination, then (he committee was
authorized to name tho candidate. Dele
gates wore also invited from Muscogee to
be present.
The time fixed for the meeting, is the
first Saturday in November.
It will be learned from the Chattahoo.
chee meeting that that county also claims
to bo entitled to the nominee and they
invite Muscogee and Marion delegates to
unite in a nomination of a Senator at
Cusseta on the first of November.
While we are of the opinion that Mus
cogee prefers an opeD race it might be
welljfor a delegation of six to go the meet
ing. According to nsago in snch conven
tions Muscogee has six votes and Marion
and Chattahoochee counties three each.
While so many gentlemen desire the
place why not have an open fair race and
the people decide the matter.
CHATTAHOOCHEE COUNTY.
RESOLUTIONS OF DEMOCRACY—FROPOBED

Resolved 2d, That Marion and Musco
gee counties are hereby invited to send
delegates from their respective counties
to participate in said nomination.
Resolved 3d, That it is tho Rontiment of
this body that Chattahoochee is justly en
titled to tho Senator at this timo, aud that
Marion’s claims come nexc, and that Mus
cogee, in consequence of her population,
should have a Senator for two terms.
Resolved 4th, That B. F. Matthews,
Esq., and Judge li. C. Patterson and Hon.
James Whittle be appointed to visit the
meeting on Saturday next in Buena Vista,
and oonfer with the citizens of Marion

Do Not Face the Light When at Work,
Statistics kept by occulists employed
in iufirmaries for eye diseases have shown
that tho habits of some persons in faoing
a window from which the light falls
directly in the eye as well ns on tho work,
injure their eyes in tho end. Tho boHt
way is to work with a side light, or, if
tho work needs a stong illumination, so
that it iR necessary to have the working
table bofore tho window, tho lower por
tion of tho latter should be covered with
a serene, so as to have a top light alone,
which does not shine in tho eyes while
th^e head is slightly bent over and

Souenck’s Pulmonic Syrup,
Schenck’h Ska Weed Tonic,
Schenok’b Mandrake Pills,
Are the only medicines that will cure
Pulmonary Consumption.
Frequently a medicine that will stop a
cough will occasion the death of the pa
tient; they look up the liver, stop the cir~
culation of the blood, hemorrhage fol
lows, and iu fact they clog the action of
the very organs that caused the congh.
Liver complaint and Dyspepsia are the
causes of two-thirds of the cases of Con
sumption. Many persons complain of a
dull pain in the side, constipation, coated
tongue, pain in the shoulder blade, feel
ing of drowsiness aud restlessness, the
food lying heavily on the stomach, ac
companied with aoidity aud belching up
of wind.
These symptoms usually originate from
a disordered condition of the stomach or
a torpid liver.
PersouR so affected, if they tAke one or
two heavy oolds, and if the congh in
these cases be suddenly checked, will
find the stomach and liver clogged, re
maining torpid and inaotive, and almost
before they are aware tho lungs are a
mass of sores, and ulcerated, the result of
which is death.
Sohenck’s Pulmonic Syrup is an expec
torant which does not contain opium or
anything calculated to check a congh sud
denly.
Sohenok’s Sea Weed Tonic dissolves
the food, mixes with the gastric juices of
the stomach, aids digestion aud creates a
ravenous appetite.
When the bowels are oostive, skin sal
low, or the symptoms otherwise of a bili
ous tendency, Schenck’s Mandrake Pills
are required.
