“The Member From Mavoinb.**
Half an hour before the train left
for Lansing, yesterday morning a
battered-looking man, about 40 years
old, whose breath gave away his lust
drink, und whose face was anything
but pretty, appeared at the Uoiou
Depot and introduced himself to one
of the officials of the Central Road
with:
“Hir, my name is Jones. I am the
member from Macomb. I got left
here, have been robbed, and I want to
reacli Lansing and enter upou my
duties as a legislator.”
The official looked up from his writ
ing. but made no reply, and after a
long silence the man said:
“Suppose I should ask you how I
am .to reach Lansing, what would he
your reply ?”
“I'd tell you to walk,” was the
'juiet answer.
“Can’t 1 get a pass?”
“No, sir.”
“Let me inform you that the mem
ber from Macomb is a man of few
words,” said the applicant, as he
drew a long breath. “I will charter
a locomotive and proceed to Lansing.
I will at ouce go to the State House.
As soon as I am in my seat I will in
troduce a resolution to repeal the
charter of your blamed old road and
sell tlie railo for scrap iron.”
The imposter did not want to be
coaxed not to do so, but walked out
stiff as a poker, made for a saloon
over tbe way, aud, placing a bogus
nickel ou the bar, commanded:
