coals by the mayor.
—Dublin Gozette: Pink Hughes,
colored, last Saturday morning, killed
a rattlesnake uuder his crib that had
fourteen rattles. For some time, Pink

terious manner, but thought it the wcik
of ’possums or minks. It now appears
that the snake was the thie r , having
been caught in the act of killing two
grown hens jus: betore being Rhot.

cause of the conflagration is not known.

used at ail. Besides the building and
mills, three or lour bales ol cotton were
consumed. The work has the sem
blance of incendiarism. There was uo
insurance, and Mi Keen’s loss is pretty
heavy,
—Two negroes were caught near
Bartlesville a tew nights ago, helping
themselves from a late melon patch.
The owner appeared on the scene and
compelled the invaders to atone tor
their offense by doing a hard day’s
work without financial remuneration.
A lew nights afterwards be again beard
suspicious noise in the direction ol
the watermelon patch, aud found a
well known negro preacher filling the
body of his cart with the iruit. The
dusky divine, rather than stued trial,
ottered to surrender his steer and cart,
provided his name would not be dis
closed. He afterwards redeemed ihe
turnout with a ?1U bill, which satisfied
the farmer.
