Georgia Is to have a day at the New
Orleans exposition. Many of the
states and territories have already
had special days set apart for them
and they have formed very attractive
features. Maroh 24th has been des
ignated as "Georgia day,” and the
commissioner, Hon DeWitt C Bacon,
has taken Btepsto make it thoroughly
known so as to bring together as
many Georgians as possible on the
occasion. Mr Bacon, In a circular
issued, urges upou the people the im
portance of making It a success, and
from the circular we extract the fol
lowing:

The commissioner states that rail

which gives within 600 miles a rate
of one and one-fourth cents per mile,

In the inaugural addrcsB of Presi
dent Cleveland the New York Sun
finds four passages that especially
commend themselves to thoughtful
men who hope to see the democratic
party profit by its opportunity and
enter on a long career of usefulness
and honor. It refers to the dear
pledges given and the sound Ideas
propounded regarding the oapltal ne
cessity of restoring economy In pub
lic expenditure, the importance of
reverting to a strlot construction of
our organlo law, the expediency of
adhering to the national polioy of
non-intrusion In the affairs of the
old world, and the duty of heedfully
conserving the interests of American
labor and capital in any readjusts
ment of our fiscal system. On these
four weighty toplos the lucoming ad
ministration has firmly and distinct
ly announced lta oonvlotlons and its
purposes. Thoroughgoing and far
sighted democrats have only praiee
for euoh a programme, and they will
be grateful to the men who unswerv
ingly enforoe it.
A TENTATIVE explanation of what
eleotriolty is, represents It as possess
ing many of the qualities of a liquid
and that men live in a sea of elec
tricity, almost as unconsoious of Its
existence as a fish Is of the deep water
in which he dwells. Under this
theory electro-magnets represent
the force developed by an electrical
whirlpool. The new theory, whioh
Is ofoourse only presented As a means
of conveying more dearly to the
mind some of th* effects of eleolrical
aotion, Is disposed to return to the old
notion of two electricities—positive
and negative—the “fluids” whioh
wore dlecarded many yearaago. The
world knows a great deal more than
Franklin did about Ui* laws govern
ing electric aotion and th* mean* of
tore having been seleoletWor the cabb
net the number Is Increased to
twenty-eeveu. Thirteen senators
have been re-eleoted as their own suc
cessors, while there are nine newly
sleeted senators. There are yet five
vacancies to be filled—that of Oregon
aud Illinois, where the legislature*
have thus fur failed to make a selec
tion, and the vacancies caused by the
appointments of Bayard, Garland and
Lamar to the cabinet.
It has always beeu considered the
part of wisdom, as well as the beat
thing to do, If one cannot speak well
of another to observe silence. Th*
opposite to this seems to prevail lu
regard to the republican press and
President Cleveland’s address. Not
being able to say anything against
the Inaugural, they psrsislenly re
frain from attempting to find any
good. There are exceptions to this as
there are to all geueral rules, but its
very simplicity seema not to set w> 1
