ROMERO ON CENTRAL AMERICA
The attention ol Heuor Komero,
Mexican minister, having beta called
to-night to the press dispatches from
the City of Mexico, which purport to
state what is the position taken by
the Mexican goverumeutin the com
plications in Central America, he sum
the policy of uis government ill these
affairs has simply been one of pre
caution and observation, having re
gard solely to the defense of their own
territorial interest. Mexico, ho raid,
. does not desire to acquire any of th<
territory of Guatemala or of any otliei
stale of Central America and has no
wish to restrict in any way the free
dom of Guatemala to orgauize her
own government, or tbe freedom of
the republics of Central America to
unite in the ooufederation, if so de
sired. He said further that the con
stitutional successor of Genera
Barrios has already notified Uk
Mexican government of his election
to the presidency of Guatemala; lhai
he has organized a new cabinet, aim
that his only aim now is to defend
tiie territory of his state. Heuor
Romero sale also that the Mexican
government has been informed ilia!
negotiations are pending for terms o;
peace with Salvador. He safd that in
view of these facts he considers the
Central American question as set
tled.
