It is believed that there is not a better
umpire In the southern leage than Umpire
Green, He gives his decisions promptly,
and allows no talk back at him.
The Augusta Chronicle, in speaking of the
games played there, has this to say of the
viBitore: ’’The Aliante will never lose any*
thing because they don’t claim 1L Their
impudence and g&llare immense and their
kicking propensities hugely developed.
The umpires have treated them most falriy;
if any thing, loaning to them in their desire
not to show partiality for the home learn,
and yet on aimosi every decision against
• hem they kick and growl. They were ciear*
iy outplayed by onr team yesterday, but
hau the iuck to b&cn their hits in the flflh
inning and ge;in three runs.”
An Atlanta man sends this to the Bavan*
nah News; -‘The excitement was Intense
about the bulletin boards this afternoon,
brought about by hoiletiiifl giving details 01
the baae bail games as they progressed*
Fully five hundred people were in atten
dance an the afternoon. The enthaeiasm
over Atlanta’s victory was oaiy equalled by
that over the defeat cf the Columbus club.’
Atlanta has never yet oeen abie to get any
thing that could oeat Columbus, and we are
not surprised that they rejoice when oihere
do so, A regular case ol ,k slcing on” as it
were,
The Atlanta Constitution reads the Chat-'

We have often BtaUd that Columbus
has the largest iron foundry soath of Rich,
mond, and no one has yet produced .figure®
to refnte It. Now we are going to make an
other statement, and If it can be mooses-
fully disputed, iron men in this section of
ccnntry know nothing ol It.
Ooinmbus has done what no other foun
dry in the United Btates has ever den., 1 e.
accomplished the feat of melting steel scrap
In an ordinary cnpalo. This has been done
by Mr Bobers E Masters, foreman of the
Colnmbns iron foundry. The Iron works
had tons of steel scrap on hand whloh they
considered dead Btock and Mr Masters sum
moned his ingenuity to make It profitable
and useful. This steel was of a class of sleet
kBown as plow or agricultural steel, and be
sucoerded in melting some 70 000 pounds of
It and making It Into plow points with
complete success.
Yesterday the Iron works made another
step forwaid in foundry practice—that of
melting end successfully moulding steel
rail. The way this came about was that the
iron works wer e solicited by the general
superintendent of the Baltimore and Ohio
railroad to instruct them in the method of
steel melting. As there are thousands of
tons of old ste.1 rails In the oonntry of no
valne, Mr Masters got the president of the
iron works to let him undertake tQ melt
the rail. He cat the rail into please one
foot long and made a trial heat of 1,003
pounds. He Buoeeeded In prodn-lng some
very fine castings, at a rate of five pounds
of steel to one pound of fuel consumed at a
tempera; are of about 3,000 degrees. Thu.
the Columbus I-on Works (soorss another
feat, In foundry practice that has never
heretofore been accomplished.
Sometime ago the Scientific American
stated that steel scrap had been melted In a
foundry In Germany by making some
ohange- :n an ordinary cupola and Mr Mas
ters concluded if It oould be done there it
could be dona here and the experiments by
the Iron works shows that the conclusions
were j ight. This Mat has been duly appre
ciated. by the company os they made a ooo»
tract with him last night to take charge of
the foundry (or another year, though sev
eral large foundries at the north had en*
dcavored to secure his services
Tne full details of this new foundry feat
will be pubUshed, together with several
other articles, in the second volume cf
•‘American Foundry Practice” T'ie Co-
lumbns Iron works is a big thing and we
feel a pride in seeing them lead in such
valuable undertakings.

Before the pavilion on Rose Hill
was decorated It was a credit to the
beauty of our city, and would have
been in any; but now, since the enter
prising proprietor, Mr T Newman, has
gome to the increased expense of still
farther beautifying it with ail sorts ol
flags aud various uolored cloth, it
would be noticeable in a city of ten
times the population. Several gentle
men visited Rise Hill early last night,
and were invited by Mr Newman to
lnspeot the decorations. What a
piotnre of yfair” land greeted their
eyes on entering! The brilliant elec

every nook and corner of the building
and revealed a scene of entrancing won

and appearing between the various

every state in the union. Over the

in large purple letters made of what
appears to be moss. Over the rear doo-
is perched in all his majesty the Ameri

his oonntry. The band stand is literally
covered with flags, “welcomes” and
other appropriate mottos.
We are requested to invite the ladies
to inspect the pavilion on to-morrow

It was the purpose of Mr Newman in
thus adorning this resort to make i; a

theooovenirnoe in case of rain cannot

Slie Had Confidence.
Mrs. H. C. Harshbarger, Manor Hill,
Huntingdon Countv, Pa., writes? “Dr. S.
B. Hartman & Co., Columbus, O.: I
have been afflicted for three years, caused
by over-work too soon after confinement.
My kidneys became seriously affectedj
c raid not retain my urine day nor night.
It was high colored, thick and bloody.
My monthlies had left altogether for four
teen months, during which time I was
confined to my bed 'with a beatingin right
ovaries. The discharge from the womb
was so offensive no one could stay in the
room. The urine continued bloody, witH
nain in voiding it, and when in bed would
pass from me in my sleep. I have had
•Iwee doctors attending rae regularly, one
for four months, one of the others one
hole summer, and the third all winter.
,Ve had two others in consultation with:
fiem, and used twenty bottles of differ-
it kinds of patent medicines, al! to no
good. I then got a bottle of Peefsa,
and before I had three-fourths of the bot
tle taken I quit wetting the bed and could
retain the urine sufficient to attend church,
which I had not done for three years,
and my monthlies came back as natural
as ever; indeed, I considered myself a
well woman again. Since that time I have
had pneumonia. My confidence in Pe*
ku.va was so great that I did not send for
a doefor. I followed the directions in
your ‘Tils of Life” and am over it, as welt
as can be expected of one so delicate as I
have been. Others in my neighborhood
had the same disease, and among them
were strong men, and had the best physi
cians, and yet died, while I sailed through
in safety on PebUna and MaHAIIX. I
sincerely believe, and would say to all the
afflicted in the wide world, that Percxa
and Man Alin are the only two medicines
that any one needs in any disease, if used
as directed in your book entitled “The Ills
of Life.”
J. E. Fleming, publisher of the New
Dominion. Morgantown, W. Va., writes:
“ Some months since, I received some of
vour medicine in exchange for advertis
ing. My wife h is taken five bottles of it,
and has derived great benefit from it.”
Mr. M. C. Pershing, Bradenvilte, P’.,
writes: “ My wife has been using P3KU-
NA for some time for weak lungs and liv
er and kidney complaint, and foinks it is
doing her great good. Has used only one
bottle as yet. Please send your book on
the ‘Ills of Life,’ as we can’t get any from
our druggist.”
Mr. John Denny, Mt. Vernon, O.,
writes: “We have a large sale in Ps»
