prospei t as a whole is ia t \cry nattering.
The rains of last wick have improved
the oat crop wonderfully in Sumter i oun-
t.v, and the prospects for a fair yield are
very good.
In Calhoun county the cotton stand is ,
bad, tin- oat crupis \ cry poor, cotton chop
ping is the order of the day, and the farm

j In Clay county farmers report- the cotton
' crop somewhat late in coming up this sea
son. The prospect for a tine oat crop in |
that section was never more flattering.
IA-t’onte pear orchards look promising.
\ The cool nights for the past week have ,
been rough on young cotton.
Complaints of poor stands of cotton are I
heard in every direction in Cobb county, j
- In some instances the land is being plowed
up and replanted. The hard rains and I
| wind which prevailed after much of tlie-
cotton was put in the ground baked the |
ground so that the sprouts can’t make their !
way through the crust. Some are going 1
o\,-r their cotton with a rake to give the

saved was more or less damaged, and it is
feared that much worthless seed has been
planted.
