Coi . MBlA, S. C., May 15.—The board of
direi mrs of the theological seminary com
pleted their business this afternoon and
adjourned, most of the members going
1 line on the outgoing trains. The exami
nation of students was finished and four
vising men were graduated. Dr. Wood-
1,av. in presenting their certificates of
graduation, made a strong address. The
students have nearly all left the city.
The directors took into consideration
tiie future of the seminary. No answer
having been received to the request for Dr.
Woodrow’s resignation, made by the board
nt its last session, a reply was requested
from him.
Ur. Woodrow stated that it would afford
him pleasure to comply with the request,
hut considering the state of things exist
ing at present he did not think lie could
honorably do so at this time. This is un
derstood to mean that while he is under
judicial prosecution before the presbytery
(T Augusta for unsoundness in the faith he
does not propose to give way an inch.
in consequence of this stand of Dr.
Woodrow’s his opponents on tiie board
urged the immediate closing of the sem
inary, lint the proposition was defeated by
n vote of seven to six, and the board pro-
fa ileil to the election of professors to fill
tin-two vacant chairs of the institution.
'1 a" Rev. J. A. Lefevre, D. D., of Baltimore,
Mas elected to the chair of theology, va
cated by Dr. Girardeau, receiving all the
votes cast. The Rev. Prof. J. F. T-atiiner,
formerly of Davidson College, N; C., and
new of Union Theological Seminary, Vir
ginia, was elected to the chair of Biblical
blerature. formerly occupied by the Rev.
Or. Hemphill. He also received all the
votes east. The minority of six took no
part in this action and protested against
the proceeding.
The election of a professor of pastoral
Ideology was postponed until the next
im i tir,g of the board. Mr. W. J. Duffle,
c! b'ohunhia, was elected treasurer of the
seminary, vice Mr. T. A.. McCreery, wl o
declined re-election. .Messrs. W. A. Clark,
