It seems that the Americas. Ibvntou and Ltunp-

Independent says: “At a meeting of the direc
tors of the Americas. Preston aud Lumpkin rail-
rond hold in Americus on Tuesday, it was de
cided to extend the road from Lumpkin to the
Clinttfihooc'hee river in Stewurt county. The
route will most likely be from Lumpkin to the
Hnnnalmtchee vtvllev, id or neur Antioch, end
thence down the creek to the river. Flor
ence is bidding up for the road to strike the
river at that point, and as it requirss money
to build railroads we would not he surprised if
Florsnce was not the western terminus of the
road. The route has been surveyed aud partially
located to the Hnnnnhntchee and it is more than
likely that the extension toward Antioch will he
completed by October 1st. When the A. I’. A: L.
reaches the river Americus and Lumpkin will get
the benefits of the low river freights ami will m*-
cure trade from a rich and prosperous section of
country.

The standard of accommodation and living mast

well-deserved repute, but it has need for more.
It is steadily growing, and its visitors are yearly

“This world is not so bad a world

Said a most estimable young lady to us yester
day;
“I am glad that I am not a prominent man’s
wife. The country long since appeared to have
reached the conclusion that when a man achieves
greatness his wife is fairly entitled to a share of
his renown.”
After venturing to intimate that probably she
was fortunate in not being anybody's wife, we
ventured to ask:
“What do you mean by that?”
“Simply this. There was Mrs. Blaine. Mrs.
Logan and the wives of other prominent men }
who were set down among the famous women of
