Washington, June 1.1.—Thu last of t) c wedding quests b.us lilt thu white house and the president and his wife have settled down to t he official and domestic routine of life as they And it. Mrs. Hoyt, the pres ident’s sister, departed on the eleven o’oloek train. She was accompanied to the station l>v Airs. Cleveland and the president’s valet, St. Clair. Breakfast is served about nine o’clock, luncheon at two and dinner at seven. Since tier return from Deer Bark Mrs. Cleveland's time has been largely devoted to unpacking her trunks and her wedding presents. 11 is given out among I he ladies of olttcial society that at the reception on Tuesday evening next Mrs. Cleveland will wear a beautiful Paris made dress that no friendly eye lias yet beheld, and that was fashioned for just such an occasion. Already several dinner Mrs, but tlie future etiquett after the two approaching receptions. In some formal quarters it is regarded as ex coedingly doubtful that any invitations to dine outside the houses of cabinet mem bers will be accepted. The difficulty about extending the acceptances beyond that line is that the impossibility of accepting in many cases might give offense. The obligation of returning calls is not incum bent upon the lady of the white house. That is Axed; but whether she may accept an invitation to dine at a friend's house is another question. The invitations to the official reception were sent out this after noon. Every indication points to a hot night and a crush of the worst kind. Mrs. Manning will lie absent with her husband, but the rest of the wives of cabinet officers will stand in the line in the blue room. A YOUTH ONCE MOKE. After seing the president in his new serge suit this afternoon I am satiHUed that he looks twenty years younger than lie did before ids marriage. There Is a serenity about his couuteuanee, a boyish skip in his walk, a smile on his lips tnat stays there and does not Hit away the moment he lets go a visitor’s hand, and, above all. a dreari ness in the voice that only Ids oldest friends remember. If, as is discreetly whis pered" among the companions who are closest to him, his marriage is largely a political move, it is evidently the most agreeable feature of politics that he has yet encountered. He was in a very cheerful mood this afternoon. He kept open house almost. The town is tilled with bridal par ties, and the president denies himself to none of them. The light of his geniality beamed on at least eight such couples t>•- day. READY TO STAY OlfT CONGRESS. Later in the day Mr. Cleveland was seen in the almost deserted cabinet room, gaz ing out over the pretty green lawn of the white house grounds, fie was the picture of a contented mind. His short sack coat showed his figure to an extent most, unu sual. lie did not appear nearly so corpu lent as ill Hie familiar Prince Albert coat. The art of his tailor had much to do with this effect perhaps. Perfect taste was I yesterday, shown in Ins neckwear, a gray scarf, with a small check across it, being worn with out, any pin. "I enjoyed myself lip iu the mountain,” said the president,, “but it was very differ ent from what 1 expected to And. I imag ined it would be something like the Adi- rondacks—a trilie uncomfortable, you know. Instead of that we had everything we could eat. I am not weaned from the old hills up in New York. 1 have come to love the Adirondacks. Cresaon must be a pretty place, too. But to the Adirondack. 1 ; we shall go ns soon ns business closes on the hill. Of course, we can’t go into the wilderness as 1 did last year, but we can I it necessary to keep his hands employed | Indeed, the harder he thinks the buisei Ids hands. Ilia favorite occupation for I for his hands is to twirl a string wbos j ends are tied together. If he is not do Iti. this, his next favorite recreation is t tear paper into small bits a»r scatter it on the Aoor beside hisscat lWhen the paper gives out, and the string Is worn out, he turns to his pocket kniie and s pasteboard bux. On this particular occa sion. he bad exhausted the string and tin paper, and was operating upon the paste board. “No,” he hiiid to your correspond ent in answer to u question, “1 do not have any idea that the confederate bonds wii ever la; paid, not n single one of them. In the Arsl place, you see the constitution i prohibits the payment of any debt incurred in this manner. Beside, I don’t think the people of the country, north or squill, would be in favor of it, and that is ax strong as the constitution itself. Another reason that It would be impracticable is the fact that probably not more than one-tenth of the bonds that, we issued are now In existence. The peo ple did not suppose that they would ever lie paid, and most of them have doubtless destroyed or mislaid their bonds. “What was the occasion of Judge Fullci- ton’s decision, do you think?” “1 presume he made the argument at, the request of tlu English bondholders. There was a pretty large loan put on the market in England, and the impression is that it j was the holders of some of these bonds' JUST OPENED AT BLANCHARD. BOOTH & HUFF'S i.i THE DULL SEASON. Hu! S STiON, New York, June 13.—The general trade situation as telegraphed Bradstreet’s has been irregular, with the tendency tovvnrd a continued moderate movement. This is due iti large part to the spring trade being over, to farmers being buBy in the fields, and to the fact that the autumn trade has not yet begun. Business at Duluth and Minneapolis has improved on a favorable crop outlook and a fair demand, as well as at Chicago and Cincinnati, where the total volume of spring trade transactions is reported to compare favorably with 188o. General trude at St. Louis has declined, as at Pittsburgh and Cleveland, though the aggregate is be lieved to lie as large as in the earlier months of last year. The lute rains in the lower Mississippi valley and southwest thereof were needed, and business has been stimulated by them. The demand for funds is conspicuous in proportion to the money offering at Duluth, Minneapolis, Omaha, St. Joseph and St. Louis. Mer cantile collections are generally slow. The New York stock market is irregular. Ma nipulation alone lias prevented any decided break, but the continued passenger rate war in the northwest is a heavy load to carry. Government bonds arc steady and in- 1 vestments Arm. In speculative bonds j there, was a decided advance in Nickle , Plate Arsis, based on an alleged settlement ! with the Lake Shore company. Money on call is easy at lj(a}2{ per cent. Cummer- cial paper is in poor supply, unit tni-eig" exchange a little easier, on t.ue reduction ! of the Bank of England rate. i Special telegrams to Bradstr. ct’s fro 1 " , Minneapolis contradict the extreme state - l ineutB of damage to the wheat crop in the | northwest, math public on the exchange ; yesterday. The si cation is rather better than worse than at, the date of the govern ment wheat crop report, lately made public. There are no noteworthy changes in tlie iron or steel markets. The former reflects the dull season of the year. The general industrial situation has im proved, though there are a considerable number of employes on strike at various manufacturing centers. Jt is nearly since the bill went to the senate placed in the hands of the commerce com inittee. yet there seems little prospect of any action upon it by that committee for weeks yet. It has been pretending to hold daily sessions to discuss it, but there art many days when it does nothing with the bill, and up to this time it has not even finished it first examinaC-*n of the bill.
