he lost ills feet.

the time, however, but they were anything
but pleasant company. Three mountain

evidently waiting for my death. They
kept on the upper crust of snow and
did not jump down in the cave in which
1 was. They were afraid of me, and
I was almost dead when 1 discovered |
them. The warm breath from one of tlie
brutes leaning down toward me awakened
me from a stupor in which I was falling.
I really believe that they saved my life,
however, for the horror excited in me at
the prospect of having my body devoured
by the brutes kept me from again falling
into the stupor which means death. ]
During these days I kept my watch going

There seemed little hope for me, yet I de

lay sensations at the prospect of relief 1

finite comfort to hear a human voice other
than my own, and he assured of assistance.
The mail carrier did what he could for me,
and hastened to procure help, the lions
then leaving me to follow him. The next
day he returned with about a dozen men,
who carried me to Idaho City, where both
m.V legs were amputated about nine inches

i^.i^lish capitalists, and the third, that it
was the Standard Oil company which de
sired to obtain possession of the system.
Idle Constitution is in possession of in
formation which leads it to believe that
1 neither English capitalists nor the Stand
ard Oil company are concerned in the ef
fort to purchase the system. Six weeks ago
two prominent railroad managers, each at
the head of large railroad enterprises, ar
rived in Atlanta from New York. They ,
were interviewed by the Constitution’s 1
railroad reporter, and in the course of what
was said by them the Central railroad sys- !
tern was mentioned.
“It is known in railroad circles in New
York,” said one, “that there are serious
differences among the members of the
bouru of directors of the Central railroad.
Exactly what those differences are I am
not informed, but it is understood that the
New York directors object to the policy
pursued by the president, Captain Raoul. I
know that he was sent for several times to ,
confer with those directors, and it leaked
out that thev informed him that if he did
not change his policy they would endeavor |
to secure his removal from the presi
dency.”
WHAT THE AUGUSTA MATTER MEANS.
The reporter asked if anything was
known of the nature of the objections to
Captain Raoul's policy.
“Nothing very definite,” was the reply.
“It was said that some of the directors
favored the policy proposed by General E.
1*. Alexander when he was president of the
system, and it was also said that the same
directors desired a more liberal policy
toward the public. Whatever the objec
tions may be, there is no sort of doubt
about tin* existence of serious differences.”
“If the differences continue to exist
then Captain Raoul must have refused to
alter his policy ?”
“I understand that he did refuse in the
most positive U mis.’*
“What do the New York directors pro
pose to do about it ?”
“It is reported that they will endeavor to
purchase a controlling interest in the stock,
so that at the next annual election of
officers they can select a president who
will carry out their policy, whatever it
may he.”
Y esterday the interview just quoted was
repeated to one of the best informed rail
road men in Atlanta.
“Why,” he said, “U has been whispered
among Atlanta railroad men for several
months that there was trouble among the
